Rixsta Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 It looks pretty dodgy, i haven't tried it yet (on my mobile phone at the moment), but as soon as i get home i'll try it. Looks pretty complex for what its worth... An interesting FF could be to have the flags that you can pick up... And the freq with the most after the ball games finished wins (if thats possible) ... Would keep the main objective the ball game but the flags as a sub game... No point in getting flags unless your going to score. Quote

talion Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 the recently played jackpot game was the most fun i've had in a long time of 17th playing, if not the most ever. look into incorporating a goal into that base and lose the east/west bases. i'm not saying put a goal in some random place in the base already - i suggest somehow creating an alternate path to the goal that still intersects the path to the main flag rooms. maybe just one tile holes for weasels/bombs to get through. it has alot of potential i think. responding to the few criticisms posted here: akai: i found the passages to be fine. there is a definite difference between teh accesibility of the central tube and the two side entrances. taking the side entrances will probably lead you to a flag, but taking the tube (if your team can) can lead to 10 very quickly. I didn't find spiders that dominant. only wb/levi/terr/shark have a realistic chance of holding the main tube. spiders have lots of closed spaces, but all those closed spaces also mean more wall bombing. becoming skilled in multi-bounce ships is more important with this base. dkr: your points barely deserve response. "even more stupid entrances?" i suppose you mean the fact there are 3 of them. little fighting occurs at the side entrances, true, but you cant have the side entrances being as short a path as the tube. likewise, you can't have the main tube being wide enough to quickly fly through (as in, can't be wider than it is now because than any newb could just fly right in. now it takes some skill to line up, and skill to fly right in if you're in a hurry).as for the bounce problem, you have some small point here. however, thors are still available, and lancs and terriers. most of all though the closed space makes it almost impossible to dodge wallbombing even by level 2 bombs. i vote for not hitting matrix .... that's a change. next week put up the same base with the ball extension(s) added on to it and see what happens. as rix said change is refreshing, and one day's changes wont drive anyone away. interesting it's always the same old people posting here :/ Quote

It drives away the soccer game into flagging and visa versa. Either one game is played or the other, which maybe isnt so bad I suppose, variety is nice in ways like that, but have we not been trying to focus upon one aspect of 17th and expand it? This puts conflict into the equasion and creates more diversity than needed. If we expand the east and west bases enough to make them tactical, fun and not too difficult to navigate around (As in make sure the walls arent ridicously small and tight (One of the problems I have with the main tuge but i'll come back to that) and keep both the flagging and soccer game going together as one, then I think we will keep the fun we had last night for a long time to come by placing the flags in certain positions around the large east and west bases. Instead of driving the game into different directions like Extreme Games (Which we are trying to break away from after Zekes interferance) we combine the two ideas and even the north map into ideas for the east and west base. Now the problem I have with the main tube is that its too thin, but for driving through? no, -*BAD WORD*- I have no problem with it. Its the bombs and such. A stable team (or alot of javs with bounce) can defend the tube so easy its a joke, with allowing no movement through. So your freezing out part of the base already with only a few ways to advance also through that tube (bricks) which can be counted. The side entrances I do not mind as much although irrating they are when your team cant drive around them comfortably (should of seen last night! Jesus lol Think it was only me and Mav NOT being slowed down through the base) and with the inter sections linked, yes it works, but for how long I wonder? Maybe adding other entrances and such like you suggested would be a better idea, not sure as of yet. Finally the WORST problem of this north base is BOUNCE! What I saw last night was the complete ownage of Sharks and Javelins upon everything else. Lancaster was no longer one of the main competetors of base; it was the Javelin... how? Because you stick something which fires a ridiculous amount of bullets, with bounce, in a small confined area!!!! Last night I witnessed 2 javelins and 2 sharks hold off a team of 10. Why? Because they had bounce, they had bricks, they had so much fire power down the tunnels you couldnt advance without dieing (And alot DID die) which then going back to your comment of Thors; Thors do not do THAT much damage, especially when A Javelin only needs to release 500 odd energy in the base to kill someone because the bullets hit hard and fast. Throw in some shields, a super here and there? and you have something truely scary, and I saw it yeserday. Thats my main problem with it, the potential for a few ships to own everything with one special upgrade. The map has potential to give ideas, but NOT to be included in our final design of our map. No offense Roach, but why do you say something like that , and then, a few comments later you tell the absolute opposite? I think the problem of new maps in general are the "comments in affect". All these voices of ppl who dont really think about what their oppinion is at first and just blame a map or something someone has made. This wont lead us anywhere and lemme state one thing straight: This was not ment as a new map(as you have seen i diddnt touch east/west) it was a try to make the old map better. It was a try to bring north back to life and it seemed to me that ppl had fun. i wouldnt say after 2-3 days north is empty again, i think the new north was just easier to defend and you diddnt need hours to get all the flags. The tube is ment to be very small. Its main usage is, that the flags are easy to get if north is empty. I see the bounce problem aswell, but just make bounce more expensive and everyone will be fine again. Well, however, i think the north is better than the old north, but i dont think its so good that it would kill the soccer game... Quote

I apologize for my first comment upon the map, it was only until I played it again that I saw more about it. And Ricebowl, you just earned yourself a permanent entry upon my ignore list on the forum and on continuum also because im nice Good day to you -*BAD WORD*- And I stand by my second entry upon the map now matrix although I do not agree upon raising bounce price again, but I still say it drains away the role of 17th at the moment.
