Rixsta Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 17th Parallel Soccer Event idea I feel a good idea for an event would be actual soccer event, for example no obstacles but 2 goals each side of an arena. Unlike SblBall it could focus more on the soccer side of things, rather than trying to mix it with hockey, like you can’t get behind the goal or the face off at the start. Having all the things a soccer match would have, swapping of ends at half time, after you conceed a goal you start with the ball from the halfway line, one team starts off with the ball at the start of the first half, the other team at the start of the second half. You would have a Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Attacker, each having their own settings, making it easier for them to do what they’re supposed to be doing e.g. an attacker attacking… the sort of settings that might work could go something like this… Goalkeeper (Shark & Spider) 2 bricks L2 Bombs Medium speed High energyDefender (Levi & Lanc) Repel L3 guns Slightly slower Med energyMidfielder (Ter and weasel) Warp (maybe) L2 guns Medium Speed Med energyAttacker ( WB & Jav) Rocket L1 guns Slight more speed High energy Also maybe the ship rotation could be different for each position. It’d probably need a lot of tweaking in general maybe a certain amount of boost could be included too (maybe a lot more for goalie). Maybe 6 a side (excluding Goalkeeper), this should allow two people per position and one goalkeeper and each team having there own ships... Example team one: Shark, Levi, Weasel and WB. Also another factor would be the timing, it probably would be best if attackers had more time on the ball than defenders… I think it could be successful seeing as 17th is fundamentally about soccer, and I think a more simple and straightforward event could attract all the people that play ball in pub but are turned off by the fact that SblBall is a Jav only event. It’d probably make a good league event if things go right. Another bonus I think will be the success of the settings in SBL Jav, which settings really are near perfect and I can’t really fault them, if these sort of settings and idea’s can be mimicked into this event it could be very successful. Please leave your comments; it’d be interesting to see what people think. Quote
Greased_Lightning Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 I really can't see this idea as gaining alot of support. We have 'soccer' in pub (yeah it's not really but whatever) and we have SBLBall. I just don't think we really need another ball game in 17th so I don't see this idea getting off the ground or being very successful. I could be wrong though, It would all depend on the settings, shipsets, the map, etc. It could turn out to be really cool and fun, but then again it could turn out to be really lame and sucky. It all just depends on whether or not the powers that be decide to go ahead and try it out. If you get it running I'll try it, but if it sucks, there will be no mercy. Quote
Tipme Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 ur wasiting ur time rixtastop posting ideas Quote
Rixsta Posted May 28, 2004 Author Report Posted May 28, 2004 I should stop giving idea's because im wasting my time... Wasting my time in helping the zone develop?! It really amazes me the amount of people that are quick to be cynical when the zone changes a setting or two, but when it comes to giving ideas its a ''waste of time'' ... Yawn! and i really expected some constructive critisicm. Shows what i know. Quote
SeVeR Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 I like the idea but the map/gfx would have to look really nice and the settings would have to be perfect. It would be very difficult to make it just right seeing as how you'd need a good understanding of the beautiful game and an even better understanding of settings. People seem happy with sblball but it is far from perfect and the thrust idea doesn't work. If you can make a map like a soccer pitch, with nice tiles and graphics and produce settings that mimic player-positions and incorporate the jav then go ahead.. sblball sucks and i want a change. DaKillaRoach Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 Im with Jim here. Nice idea Rix, get a map maker person and such and get working on it Quote
Rixsta Posted May 28, 2004 Author Report Posted May 28, 2004 Yeah, as a loyal Millwall fan im not too sure about it being a beautiful game... Lol well down the den it isnt. Heh. Yeah, i was sorta trying to get the idea of indoor football incorporated, maybe slow it down a little, making the passing important, but not so slow its boring. But im not too sure the in's and out's of the settings, it would probably take a lot of trial and error, and at the moment i haven't got bundles of time to spare to relay the things that need changing, and im sure the sysops haven't either. Sigh... Maybe i'll work on the GFX. Anyway thanks for your input Jim n Rory Rix Quote
Greased_Lightning Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 hey, why dont I get a thanks? I didnt say it was stupid, I just doubted it would work! Quote
Tipme Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 greased lightningwe get no love around herelets go to SSZ HALO Quote
DaKillaRoach Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Advertising! BAN! And Rix, how about something like freezing the ships movement and arming them with rockets? Or ~Taking an idea from Infantry and there -*BAD WORD*-ty boomball game~ have sectioned off areas of the map where a ship inside a area can move only in that area (Sectioned off with walls) which the ships can not p!@#$%^&* through but the ball can. I dont know if SS can do this; Infantry was able to restrict where a player could go but the ball could go anywhere. Quote
Mikalo Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 great idea rix, I see there is something similar to this called sblball2, maybe this already is the map you are talking about...Great idea, keep up the good work and creativity! Quote
The Maurauder Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 It is a good idea, but it would take a lot of work. The duties of the host would be many, and we don't need another bot. I have a map that would work perfectly (my own design) but as I said, there would be alot of work. Quote
Naedhaha Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 So basically you want a football map with football rules Quote
Miami Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Sounds like fun. Let me know if it ever happens. And by the way....may I suggest placing the Miami Dolphins logo in the center of the map. Quote
