Erf Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 Ok, say there's 2 priv freqs, both full... one balling and the other gathering flags, as it seems to happen often. People in public freqs can't ball(priv team prevents), because their ships are outclassed, and wouldn't have a chance in -*BAD WORD*- in flagging. So the jackpot gets to a decent amount and both teams are flagging. You would think, "good now the public teams can ball for not-even-decent-but-better-than-killing cash." Nope. The flagging teams have taken the ball to their base, where no public team can touch. New people can't get anywhere near decent cash because the already rich people take it all for themselves! Have a heart, leave the ball. Let the public teams enjoy an even fight between themselves, would you?
JoWie Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 the ball is mostly taken to encourage the public teams to attack the private team, so the jackpot will rise
Dav Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 usually a balling freq will advertise itself in game, also it gathers alot of peole to increse kills so newbies kill money. You probably get more from killing then balling anyway. It would be slightly diffrent is balling was worth more, then freqs would fight over it to get the money as its well worth it.
Erf Posted May 9, 2004 Author Report Posted May 9, 2004 the ball is mostly taken to encourage the public teams to attack the private team, so the jackpot will riseOnly dumb people will try to take the ball from the heart of a based freq, I say try because it wont happen. You want public teams to really start attacking privates? Let us get money so we can at least get something to fight with.
FunkmastaD Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 If you ask really really nice I might just move the ball so you have something to do and so you can still have funIf a base wants to get attacked just type Come attack me at base # for flagsor something like that
Dav Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 could you make ball spawn in center instead of anywhere?
FunkmastaD Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 That takes the fun out of tracking it down in a random place
Dav Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 press alt, ball found. Hardly "tracking it down". i agree it will be boring but it gives n00bs a chance to get it before its put in a base.
FunkmastaD Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 You'd be surprized how many people don't know that pressing alt shows the ball locationPlus if the ball is being used as bait for people that usually isn't fun for the potential ballers and If asked might pull the ball disappearing actSince the ball is not needed for flagging and it just gives others less things to do while playing
NinjaMantis Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Also, Alt may not always work.A: The ball is located in your nametag. Haha.B: You have guns and stuff. The ball's located IN the iconsC: The ball's on the borders, and your eyes will skip over it
Evil Incorporated Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 well making your radar nontransparent does wonders ninja
NinjaMantis Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Still doesn't help in certain cases, such as aforementioned nametag.
BlueC Posted May 15, 2004 Report Posted May 15, 2004 Freqs do form and succeed in taking ball and flags from a Priv base. I recently has such a experience and it was better then I expected.A bunch of us average (ie not so -*BAD WORD*-y) aces stormed them yaks and won three games in a row. All the while owning ball goaling. If people arn't into taking down a nme freq, it's not worth attacking at all. Go somewhere else. Life is about moving on and ignoring all you mistakes. Having the ball circulating is the quickest way to rasie jackpot. Teams that hordes the ball in their base to lure people are stupid in their quest to rasie jackpot. Different strokes with different folks. Very specially different in a 'gifted' way. Free the ball.
JoWie Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 I personaly think this should be made illegal. Like they did in T3 the gauntlet. It ruins the ball game, ppl dont come attack ur base for ball if u have a strong freq, The jackpot raises quicker if ppl are balling. And incase no one noticed, there are ppl that leave cuz private freqs are holding the ball.... EDIT: how about fixing the mapping bugs so u can get the ball stuck?? ^^
Siaon Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Basically you're saying the ball is the only way to gain money, which isn't true. Both me and funk started a new account a few days ago to see just how hard it was: I had a good leviathan in only 30 minutes! And I didn't score a single ball and I was on my own team.
NinjaMantis Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 Frankly speaking, everyone seems to see money as hard to obtain. Everyone's either 1btying, flagging, or balling for points. After the reset, did I 1bty? Nope. Flag? Nope. Ball? Nope. How much money did I get? Enough to get AntiDeath. It really ain't that hard to earn money, just shoot people. It's really not that hard to get the ball out of a base. It's like getting flags out. People manage to do that, don't they?
Dr Brain Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 Putting the ball in a base wont ever be illegal. It may be lame, but it's not illegal.
FunkmastaD Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 My levi that I made took about 45 minutes to earn enough to make it a good ship to fly around and kill people with ease in.So its really just a matter of how you plan out how you want to gain money and how you spend it, oh and that little thing known as skill helps. Also, people can stop PMing me to remove the ball in base
Animate Dreams Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Yeah, really, skill plays a much bigger part than most of the noobs coming in think. Anyway, I personally think that balling is worth too little when there's only a few people in, and too much when there's a lot. I don't guess you could change that though, not easily and it probably wouldn't be a good idea. If only you could have the teams limited so the only 5 people in the zone couldn't all join one freq, you could raise the balling money for when it's smaller, but limiting the teams wouldn't be a great idea either. It works this way though, and if any of you remember the old DS, if it works you DON'T want to change it. So the best bet would be to get over it. 'Course, if everyone could do that, would the term "newbie" have ever been coined?
Bomook Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I agree with the money amount being changed based on total amount of players. With the current quadratic formula, scoring is worth more than flagging with a high population, and isn't even worth the bother with a low population.
Dav Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 is there a way you can set a minimum? if the pop is drastically low where you arent making any money at all and you want to ball $5 isnt worth it and you may as well leave. If the min was say $150 then you may as well get a little while waiting for more ppl to play.
Ladd Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 maybe to help with newbs getting money, maybe try make the shark a better ship, so you know, it can actually kill stuff. give it:bounce5 energy slots things5 recharge slot thingsthen they wont have any excuse about not being able to kill anyone, and earning money
