Guest xar Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Hey, I just found out SS is still alive yesterday and since then I've been trying to get it running under linux. And of course I've had no success. It looks like Snrrrubspace is the only native client and it hasn't been updated in very long time. I keep hearing how Continuum was independantly developed and contains none of the original copyrighted software. So why hasn't anyone ported the software yet? I wouldn't mind working on it, but I can't find the source or even who I should talk to about helping with developement. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
LiveForce Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 it's closed source. See forum en!@#$%^&*led 'Thank you Subspace Community' for new developments.
»CypherJF Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Priit ala "PriitK" - developer of Continuum has not released the source code to the Continuum Client. However, with the development of ASSS several developers have been working on different variations of the game. There is, snrrrrubspace which supposively runs on linux (i couldn't get it to work :/ meh go figure lol), I guess there is a Mac/Windows release being worked on, details on forums.minegoboom.com; and finally the other client that was released here on these forums, which I have issues of the collision detection being messed up as I hit the wall I get stuck in it or even p!@#$%^&* through em o.o fun stuff; several clients under way to help out the independent development aspect of the game, but we'll see how far anyone gets
»i88gerbils Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 sknox, a rather unknown player (shipbuilder), is working on patching up wine for continuum in his spare time. snrrrubspace worked for me. Slow, but useful back when zones still allowed VIE-type clients as a chat client. here's some google links of information: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-...G=Google+Search http://forums.minegoboom.com has a developer-friendly community as long as you know what you're doing (and even not). Just do some reading first...

Guest WiseCherub Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 Okay, Prittk won't release the source code mainly cause of cheating; Is that correct? Understandable and I agree. But perhaps he could put a security feature for clients approved by the SS Developers Committee who can approve the source code of a new Client incarnation before it is authorized for distribution or general use. Security Feature: Have some heavily encrypted large # key, that only the Authorized SS committee can put inside the authorized/certified source code. When a player logins, this Encrypted Certified Continuum Client can be checked before allowing a player into a zone. I'm sure there is many SS developers interested into this 2d MMPOG game engine (all the low level tcp/ip comms) that makes it all possible. I agree prittk should keep that under lock, but the rest should be open sources so wide variety of fun games could be created utilizing this efficient game engine. Then prittk would just have to create a MAC or UNIX/LINUX version of this 2d MMPOG 2d game engine and the rest could be done by interested programmers that support these platforms. If prittk does this, he should do it after the next revision of his packet refinement (making it more efficient, less bytes, I read this in another thread). In the end, this will make SS/Continuum more diverse and increase the player population. Whether prittk considers this or even hears about this idea; who knows? Obviously, I can see he isn't into this for the money, so I think its about cheater players. Prittk has this authority to keep all of us into stagnation, and I don't think its completely fair. Ok, I respect the fact he made Continuum; but he shouldn't keep all of us in limbo and barely give us any feedback on whether any new versions will come etc... I searched high and low for any technical information in regards to SS/Continuum and this is the best place I found or shankey.
