Guest Game won't start properly Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Every part of the program is where it is suppose to be. Game won't start properly, just closes itself, and restarts, endlessly. The program was constantly closing and restarting itself in new instances, this also effectively prevented me from even shutting it down. It's an endless loop until I just shut the computer down and reboot. Using the option /emulate does not work either. Quote
Mr Ekted Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Reboot and re-install the full version from scratch. Quote
Mr Ekted Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Cont needs the 039 exe, the 039 menu dll, and menures.dll. If all these files are the right versions and they are in the same folder it will work. Quote
Bargeld Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 No offense Deathangel, but everything you have listed here has been un-helpful information, which is why we are unable to help up to this point. Just to clarify a couple things:There is no "Continuum39pr1.dll" anywhere, only an .exe file by that name. Which is why ekted suggested his solution (the menures.dll error sounds similar to your description.) I suggest that you unistall continuum completely, then delete the game folder, the re-install continuum 38, then follow the instructions here:http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=2972 I'm also unaware of what the /emulate means or where you put it... I've never heard that before in continuum. (my !@#$%^&*umption is that "using the /emulate option" would achieve nothing.) So I will start with the standard suggestions, which I suggest you follow, or else there is no purpose for you asking for help if you rule out suggestions for one reason or another... Install the latest version of DirectX 9.0bInstall the latest Sound/Video driversRun windows update, or visit microsoft.com and update manually. I also suggest that you open the file "exception.log" with a text editor and see if there is any useful leads there (please do not just paste the info here, because the majority of the contents of that file will be useless as we troubleshoot your problem. Best of luck. Quote
Guest Deathangel Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 I'm not offended. I've tried everything. Un-install, re-install, reg edit, delete, download new, and researched what others have tried. Some of still have no answer. As far as the /emulate goes, I read about it here: http://www.forumhq.net/forums/index.php?showforum=2 The error was, contiuum.exe-dll initialization failed Quote
Guest Deathangel Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 This is the history from the other forum at: http://www.forumhq.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=231same for me and I've done everything he has done and followed the directions on the link you left more than once. HiWhen I start continuum it wont really start but it keeps restarting itself (not so uncommon problem Ive noticed).Dont think I havent tried to fix it. I have looked and looked for a fix to this problem.Heres a list of what Ive tried (that I remember): rebootreinstall (clean registry)viruscheckwindowsupdateclose most other programs (including firewall, I have no atnivirus) The files Ive used (and tried):Cont_10-2003.zipcontinuum038setup.exeContinuum038Setup.zipContinuum039pr1.zipcontinuum.zipcontinuum-latest.exe Some of them contain the same files, but I tried em all anyway some specsWindows XP pro (swedish edition)Gf3 Ti 200 (a la Gainward)hum... u dont really need to know my specs more than that, do you? I can get the Subspace 1.35 running... but I cant join any zones. Neither can I download any lists (tried lotsa places to dl from). What I really want is to be able to play TrenchWars, how doesnt really matter. Thanks in advance. i88gerbils Posted: Feb 25 2004, 11:38 PM Member Group: MembersPosts: 161Member No.: 3Joined: 7-October 03 Try running Continuum (after rebooting) with the /emulate parameter. "drive:\path\to\Continuum.exe /emulate" should work for a shortcut. You can either do this by running from the Run command, or creating a new shortcut from Continuum.exe (or Continuum-39p1.exe or whatever it is called). Proper reboot, shortcut with /emulate.Same problem. »i88gerbils Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 /emulate was in SubSpace. It's a quick way of starting up in software emulation mode if you had any video problems. Quote
