I love subspace. Love it. But I could only play at the uber high resolution of 1600x1200 for it to be the orgasmic expirence that I have come to befriend. But my monitor got stolen and I cannot afford a new one.

My current monitor barely blazes past 800x600 at a whopping 1024x768. I find subspace utterly unplayable at this resolution. I cant tell where the bombs are coming from, I cant correctly fly my ship, I just cannot play the -*BAD WORD*- game and enjoy it anymore.

So I decided to learn how to make my own subspace game with OpenGL.

Now I'm not too far along, but I can load textures onto surfaces, move and rotate them independently. But through this I've noticed how incredibly easy it is for a programer to change the viewport so that the user can zoom in and out of the screen.

It's less than 10 lines of code for the keyboard event, and the global for the zoom in/out in OpenGL. Can we do this with DirectX? So that subspace is enjoyable with bargain basement monitors?

I would prittk forever and ever if he could allow the user to zoom out of the screen so I can enjoy atleast one videogame, as my game development is moving along rather slowly (too much to learn!)

Zooming in and out is harder with a 2d sprite based game, but not impossible by any means.

The problem of course is that Priitk might as well be dead for all the new features he has added recently.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Nope. PriitK uses the obsolete-ish DirectDraw, which does not support hardware accelerated downscaling and software downscaling is slooooo-how!

I use 1024x768 and seems to be the best for my needs... I agree w Canadian - most play w/ a 640x480... and I believe a lot 14" monitors...

heh...

So long run, I doubt this request will be acted upon..

TV = lowres

Wireless = lag

The gfx on your homepage is filter derrived crap.

You know jack about programming.

BUT since you're keen, maybe you'll learn. Its never too late.

I think we're missing the real funny part of all of this...

my monitor got stolen

... you let some -*BAD WORD*- run off with your 17'? 19'? monitor...

I can understand why you would be a little reluctant to give chase...

I can understand why you would be a little reluctant to trip tackle him...

I can even understand why you wouldn't want to scream or otherwise distract him as he carried your monitor away...

... But what exactly was running through your head when the guy started unplugging it from your PC?

When he moved the !@#$%^&*orted wrappers and pushed the leaning coke cans off of it?

When he casually requested that you push back from the desk for a moment so that he could pick it up?

I guess what I'm saying is he would have had to pull a gun on me to steal my 19' monitor -- and when he picked it up (with both hands) I'd grab his gun and shove it up his -*BAD WORD*-.

Prove you've got useful source.

Post the beginning of the movement routine. If its crap straight from a universal decompiler I have the Continuum source too. Big frigging deal.
