Now, millions will be spent in Spain on unnecessary security increases, travel there will become a nightmare...airport security will take forever to get through, there will be metal detectors installed everywhere in places like theme parks and sporting events, Spain might even "declare war on all terrorists," blum.gif (these things sound familiar?) and....

al Qaeda will move on to the next country.

punishment for joining the US. It doesnt really make any diffrence, they will come for us anyway although it may move us up the target list.

if you checked the url Ekted posted, you might have read this:

"We declare our responsibility for what occurred in Madrid, just 2.5 years after the attacks in New York and Washington. It is a response to your collaboration with the criminals (U.S. President) Bush and his allies."

Hmm I don't think I explained my point very well. The US got attacked by terrorists. Then the government spent so much money improving security, etc. This was rather useless and a waste of time and money, because the terrorists just attacked another country. I think it was predictable that they wouldn't strike the US again, at least not for awhile, because security was at it's highest after 9/11. I have already heard that Spain is now beefing up their security. Again, that's pretty useless because the terrorists will just move on to another country. Why would they attack the same country who now has increased security specifically for terror attacks? Countries need to prepare themselves before it happens in the first place, and need to stop waiting for the harsh wake-up call.

...Spain collaborated with the US, right? That IS prepartion.

If you're expecting nations all over the world to bomb-proof TRAINS...then you have another thing coming. Even if people in charge of such things across the world were smart enough to be able to get it done, it would never happen because of the cost.

Spain knew the price they had to pay for allying USA (the rest of them must know it too), but in my opinion Aznar had no choice, because they were already struggling with terrorism as the ETA group attacked them several times. Now the arabs terrorists took their revenge.

Many countries allied to USA, so they will get help in fixing their problems, for instance the Dominican Republic allied to USA so they could recieve 1st class treatment by the IMF. All those countries allied are now targeted by terrorists, we should expect attacks on them.

You ally to USA to fix your problems and you pay the price.

Edit:

Arabs is just an expression doens't mean i believe ALL ARABS are terrorists, but no arab can deny that right now the terrorist organizations (with more arab members than others) are on a so called Jihad Against the West.

I dunno....

I'm pretty sure that Spain wouldn't have been attacked if they hadn't supported the US....but lets face it.....these terrorists are -*BAD WORD*-s and someone has got to stand up to them. I hope this event makes the Spanish more determined to fight terrorism...but also more determined to look carefully at how that 'fight' should take place.

But who knows? If it wasn't Iraq, Al Qaeda could have easily found another excuse to cause mahem in Spain or any other country. Australia was singled out by Al Qaeda because they helped the East Timorese gain independence before the war on terror began. These people just hate the west and will lash out whereever they can.

I reckon one of the big problems the western world faces now is that the US stuffed up when they linked Iraq and Afghanistan together. They were 2 seperate issues. Al Qaeda are the terrorists. Hussein was the ruthless and erratic dictator. Calling the attack on Iraq part of the War on Terror was wrong.

In the short term this attack has had exactly the impact that Al Qaeda would have wanted. Death, destruction, chaos, fear, economic damage and even a change of government in Spain. In the long term I hope the world wisens up and finds a way to punish those responsible without inciting more violence.

What is worst is that in this case, the terrorist act turned the results of Sunday's election. Bin Laden just figured out how to make these actions count politically. If terrorists continue to strike just before elections are held, they can shape the governments of larger powers the way they see fit.

This just adds one new methods on to the list of ways that elections can be manipulated. The thing that is so bad about this method is that it is the first one in which the weak can push around the strong. This goes against the natural order of the universe.

Well.....The way I understand it is that Spain has recently decided to pull out of Iraq unless the UN gets involved or something. Thats ok in my book, but only if they redeploy forces in Afghanistan or do something else that sends a message to the terrorists that they haven't won.

If they back out of Iraq and go soft on terrorism they are gonna look like spineless wimps beholden to shameless and faceless terrorists.

i agree monte. By the pulling out of forces that may indicate the terrorists have won. Another thing i read in the telegraph today is that they are doing thos because "we cannot sustain more then 3 attacks witout having to withdraw from iraq anyway". This shows that terror has struck fear into the spannish government and fear is terrors main weapon.

Who knows what is going to happen. It looks like Spain is going to flat out pull out of Iraq without redeploying anywhere at the moment. This is a very bad policy, and Spain would be smart enough not to follow it 360 days a year.

Unfortuneatly, the elections were held in one of the five other days.

We frankly don't know what Spain is going to do. Right now, they are in the middle of grieving and not really all that capable of the proper action at the moment. We will simply have to wait a few weeks and see what they do.

they will retract spanish troops somewhere in june unless there's drastic changes in US/England policies in Iraq...that is to say they'll reconsider Iraq admin. is given to UN authorities.

off topic but it only means that considering the actual state of geopolitics and economics, terrorism might prove to be the more adapted tool against total !@#$%^&*imilation or such phenomenon. Hence, the "strongest" survive. Dinosaurs were big and strong, they died nonetheless.

Sad, how poor/uneducated people die because of the rich and ugly -*BAD WORD*-s plan to bomb. People want to live somewhere there is peace, why do -*BAD WORD*-es always bring Terroism in this world. --> ;) <-- -*BAD WORD*-s

ok to start most terrorists are not rich.

The reason terror is in this world isbecause people think they can get what they want with violance and fear.

Well, the terrorist leaders are pretty rich (relative to the rest of their populations). Now your average terrorist grunt is usually some poor farmboy.

Its kinda like the old Prussian army. The vast majority of the soldiers were commoners, but the officer positions were reserved for the nobles.

Also, while there are many different types of strength, I don't think terrorists have any save for a desire to be violent in a world that mostly desires peace.

Yea, this old true for a lot of factions, not just terrorists. Terrorists usually use those tactics because there's nothing else. They plan to bomb things because they can't protest otherwise (or so they think, whatever).

If i had to fight with a very, very, very strong neighborg, i'd certainly used guerilla type strike, and terror bombing. Not some peace march in the street of my newly occupied city. Because usually, leaders don't care.

Violence and Fear is anyone weapons, US as much as Al Qaeda.
