Too small UDP packets causing ploss?

I've contacted my isp several times about the huge packet loss issue i get in the tw server, they just contacted me and told that ctm's packets are very very small udp packets that dont even meet the standards. They said it's quite unlikely to get it to work over PPPoE, nevertheless users with dialup have the same ploss.

Any ideas?

...they're trying to tell you that the packets aren't big enough?

I don't know that much about the technical aspects, but that just sounds re-*BAD WORD*-ed to me.

For the original version of this game it was suggested you have at least a 33.6kbaud modem...that means you could practically send packets through the post and still play.

Tell your ISP to get a clue.

That is -*BAD WORD*-. UDP allows for 0 length packets (plus headers), up to the maximum MTU (usually about 1500 bytes). There is no "minimum standard" size.

The isp's representative telling you he has no idea how to fix the problem.

If you talk to the reps in a technical manner, they probably won't -*BAD WORD*- you. If they do and you know they did, stick it in their face.

The whole isp's tech support system sucks, i phoned them about this issue too and they sent a guy have a look at my phone lines, all he did was give me a new adsl modem. Guess i'll have to wrap up a mail containing more specific technical information.
