Help, Cant play in full screen mode

I am playing SS in an XP environment.

 

Everytime I log in, I get a blank screen, with nothing visible except my lonely mouse pointer. Then the whole thing minimizes. When I click the minimized icon, the only thing that pops up is a chat box. I can play in windowed mode fine, but that's not exactly worth it. Anybody have an idea whats up?

The same exact thing happens to me, it seems like there isnt enough space to allocate the necessary amount needed, free up some resources or restart computer.
