To have something like that.

?addfriend - Would add that person to your friend list

?friendlist - Would list all people on your friend list and show if they're offline/online

?removefriend - Would remove friend from your friend list

( i.e. FRIEND LIST: Someone [Offline], Someone [Online] )

It could be more detailed by showing what zone they're in. I guess this would be a biller thing though?

Ok a possibility:

A Buddy window, which lists, say, 10 ppl in it (max)

the Buddy list isn't refreshed unless it's open (as a panel or something)

when open, it will update similar to the ping update at the main menu... but only for the 10 listed. If you scroll down, there are still only 10 listed. (this will constrain the bandwidth to a throttle-able level)

haha, but I should clarify...

maybe 50 MAX ppl for the list as a whole, but only 10 displayed "per page" type of thing.

Dude, just add these buddies to your messaging program of choice (AIM, ICQ, MSN, etc) and have it agreed upon between all of you that whenever someone logs onto SS, they also logon to their IM client and send a message to everyone they see that's currently online. As long as no one has an away message up, the message should kick everyone's Continuum client into alt-tab mode, and voila! You're notified of your buddies logging into the game. :]

Personally, I say screw adding on to the chat capabilities of SS. It's already got one of the best chat systems of any MMOG I've ever seen. Let's see new gameplay features instead!

This is game dev, not the workaround workshop.

Imagine having a screen which behaves similarly to the zone list at main menu, but instead a player list and squad list (or players) which is right cllickable for more info. Also make an additional dialog accessable from the alt tab menu wih similar/same options.

This way, these things dont need to be added to the gameplay portion of the client.

Just incase anyone's wondering, I also plan on putting ?notify in my biller. Here is an example of how I will implement it:

me> ?notify bob,fred

...

bob logged into foo

...

fred logged out of bar

...

me> ?notify

online: bob

No point sending the zone name as well, if you have a lot of people on your zone list, and they are in DSB, you will get spammed by the length of the message. Arena can't be put in as the biller is not sent this info (the server will forward ?find to the biller if they couldn't be found in an arena).

Personally I just get all my friends to join my own chat, then a simple ?chat tells me who's here & who isn't.
