Paxil Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 To have something like that. ?addfriend - Would add that person to your friend list?friendlist - Would list all people on your friend list and show if they're offline/online?removefriend - Would remove friend from your friend list ( i.e. FRIEND LIST: Someone [Offline], Someone [Online] ) It could be more detailed by showing what zone they're in. I guess this would be a biller thing though?
Jason Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 One of these days SS is going to be nothing more than another IRC. =p
madhaha Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 What would be more intersting would be having it alert you when your friends went online/offline and what arena (if not private) they're in.
»CypherJF Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 actually im sure it'd be possible to edit the current billers to support these commands...
Trained Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Probally, the biller could just ?find everyone on the list
ExplodyThingy Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Its an easy patch. Its done with chats and junk, but would be rather bulky and awkward to implement.
Bargeld Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Think of the extra bandwidth:finding info for X amount of ppl each time a person logs and then keeping it updated
Bargeld Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Ok a possibility: A Buddy window, which lists, say, 10 ppl in it (max) the Buddy list isn't refreshed unless it's open (as a panel or something)when open, it will update similar to the ping update at the main menu... but only for the 10 listed. If you scroll down, there are still only 10 listed. (this will constrain the bandwidth to a throttle-able level)
Bargeld Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Squad members/info could be displayed here too
Mr Ekted Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 A Buddy window, which lists, say, 10 ppl in it (max)I used to have lots of buddies, but ever time I make a post I lose one.
Bargeld Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 haha, but I should clarify... maybe 50 MAX ppl for the list as a whole, but only 10 displayed "per page" type of thing.
Jason Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Dude, just add these buddies to your messaging program of choice (AIM, ICQ, MSN, etc) and have it agreed upon between all of you that whenever someone logs onto SS, they also logon to their IM client and send a message to everyone they see that's currently online. As long as no one has an away message up, the message should kick everyone's Continuum client into alt-tab mode, and voila! You're notified of your buddies logging into the game. :] Personally, I say screw adding on to the chat capabilities of SS. It's already got one of the best chat systems of any MMOG I've ever seen. Let's see new gameplay features instead!

Imagine having a screen which behaves similarly to the zone list at main menu, but instead a player list and squad list (or players) which is right cllickable for more info. Also make an additional dialog accessable from the alt tab menu wih similar/same options. This way, these things dont need to be added to the gameplay portion of the client.
»CypherJF Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 nah then i wouldnt want this implemented; as there is already enough packets flyin around .. just stick w/ ?find and some IMer.
Jason Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Indeed. I agree wholeheartedly with cypher. Use someone else's bandwidth for something as superfluous as a buddy list.
Unlimited Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Would be pretty cool. I might even get one of my biller ops to make it and put it on my biller. Might change it to ?buddylist instead though.
»CypherJF Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 sounds like something Unlimited would do ... hehehe... just messin' w/ ya
Smong Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Just incase anyone's wondering, I also plan on putting ?notify in my biller. Here is an example of how I will implement it: me> ?notify bob,fred...bob logged into foo...fred logged out of bar...me> ?notifyonline: bob No point sending the zone name as well, if you have a lot of people on your zone list, and they are in DSB, you will get spammed by the length of the message. Arena can't be put in as the biller is not sent this info (the server will forward ?find to the biller if they couldn't be found in an arena).
»CypherJF Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 It'd be an interesting addition, keep me informed .. i'd just be too lazy to code it :/ lol
Guest CR0SSFIRE Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Personally I just get all my friends to join my own chat, then a simple ?chat tells me who's here & who isn't.
