Heh don't shoot me yet. I was showing to tws staff that the tws map could be made much much better (they wanted me to prove it). So bored as i am i've decided to prove you can make a really cool decent map... then it became very addictive. Only prob was- i couldn't seem to alter any tiles anyway to make it my own work lol.

Also knowing that alot of my ideas over the years get rejected (though some are good), I don't think i want to waste a great deal of time making my own decent tileset... only for the idea to be not taken srsly (because they may prefer a simple map). I'm glad i made your day Slum lol.

Typically zones ask other zones permission to use their tileset - I'm sure that would have happened at some point to putting the map in pub TW.  I'm open to changes to that tileset if you have suggestions.  Definitely recommend that you consider anything BUT DCME for editing tiles.  I did most of that tileset using photoshop to produce the right shading, pixelation, etc.

About changing the TW map - you should realize that almost every zone in history has changed their pub map several times.  TW - has not.  So you're being duped if you believe that they will consider changing that map.  You would be better off making a map for the Omega Fire zone - at least you'd have a chance to see your efforts come to fruition.  I think Cypher would agree with me on this - a decent turf map would be a neat thing in a fast zone like ours.

Yeh i do appologise if i caused any anger (none intended). I was just trying to prove to trench wars that they should make a better map... and thought telling them that isn't good enough so lets quickly make a modified tws map (omega tileset) and put up screenshots for them to see and say: wow hes right- lets finally make this map looking attractive :p. The problem was as soon as i started messing with the map- it became addictive/ fun and now it looks like its a finished version... but it was only to try and tempt them to change things :p

Curious is why you're using omega fire tiles on a TW map? :) Please refrain from committing copyright infringement with our art, thanks.

oh did you actually buy a united states copyright?

id love to see the paperwork

did u get a patent as well

whats the patent number

lol @ the mention of copyright in this game.

All of continuum is a copyright infringement which is simply not being pursued.

The tiles/map in question was never distributed or published.

Are the people making claims the actual proven owners of the tileset?

Has said tileset ever had a statement of copyright or a notice of exclusive use? Or was it freely distributed?

Would a new map using a tileset be considered a derivative work, different from an original copyrighted map?

Is it legal to 'distribute' this tileset using the Continuum client?

Could/would the owner of the copyright actually spend the money and time to move forward with legal action?

So much hilarity in one topic!

As a photographer I have looked into copyright laws but I am not a lawyer - in the United States, copyright automatically granted to the author of the work as soon as it's created. Patents and trademarks are different animals entirely. However the tricky part comes in if you want to enforce the copyright. That requires the work to be registered within X days of being published with the US copyright and trademark office. Something like a 30$ filing fee. If the work is registered the author has the ability to file for civil damages since it is a registered copyright . However, I'm not the owner of the tiles, Sass is. It's not like him nor I would chase down people over this game. But it's the fact that people should request permission to use the work. Guess I'm jaded that people stole my photos and republished them without asking for permission nor gave credit. People seem to be selfish or rather entitled and do not think about the people who spend hours on the art that takes less than a minute to copy. In my case I travel to locations, I pay for my photo gear. I spend the time to get that one shot. That takes time and money, I should be allowed to put restrictions on the work I produce. Most don't even think about their actions. Since this isn't about my photography but more a conversation of thinking before one does and perhaps ethically ask oneself if that it's okay, if not legally, is the point. Like Sass said, I would love to see folks contribute to omega fire. A large part of this community only exists because we gave the assets to the community (which I have done with plug-ins and software I wrote years ago). I hope that clarifies my original intent of message.

Here are two tile-sets with which you can do as you please. Edit them, mix and match, color them pink...whatever. No accreditation required.

DId you create those Zig? By the way would love to ask you how did you make your prox bombs, they were pretty cool!

I remember WitchDoom :D it was pretty fun! and that tileset was sexy in the map they used!

Yes Sir. I created those for WD back in the "day".

The proximity bombs where made using bryce7, JASC animation shop, JASC paint shop(just for compression in this case), and a little VB program I made that assembles frames of animation into the larger composite images that SS uses.

Glad you like em and may put them to use sometime! :)

Ken you pick a zone I'll put em in!

Ziggy keep making those magic graphics happen!

Quick question about tiles while i'm here!  can you make the bottom set of tiles ie the special tiles look like something else?  I'm talking about the tiles that are invisible and usually look like red bricks?  This is the area underneath where people usually do there tile choices.  Or are they always invisible?for example tile 212 on the drake map editor and if they are invisible i wonder... can i make them appear on one of the custom clients that i have open source for.

...Axe

PS hope you are doing well! and fire up a red baron for me!

feel free to attack the graphics question and not worry about the programing question unless you want to!

I believe they are always invisible, you can put a .lvz over it to make it look like a new tileset or just some graphics that you wont fly over or under in game

prob because dcme full of bugs and they put spaces in folder names

use other tile editors instead

I'm honestly surprised that DCME still works after 9 years, I mean it was written in visual basic 6 and that didn't exactly encourage good practices. I mean, a temporary folder in c:\windows\system32\, what :fool:

Also yeah, don't use the editor but import/export the tileset.

What a load of bullshit.

This clown with OMG you are using Omega Tiles. You sound like Hoch, retarded. Keep in mind he was a British Lawyer. He used to say work you do is not yours once it's uploaded to Death Star Battle. It then belongs to the zone and it's DSBs, and using it elsewhere is a violation of DSBs copyright or some B.S like that. At any rate you need to look at the fashion industry. They don't have copyright. Because someone can design the same thing and shorten it by 5 millemeters and it's now a new item even though it looks exactly the same. Here is the link in case you ever feel like educating yourself. What they have instead is Brand/Trademark protection. Your brand on subspace/continuum is your name and your zone. Meaning I can't pass of your tiles as my own. I need to say you made them. But otherwise I can do whatever the hell I want with them.  At any rate this is why continuum is a failing game. No creativity, no innovation. In a proper game, the tile editor would be linked to a database where all work done is uploaded free for everyone to use. Do you know how many thousands of tiles there would be then? And how little people would complain because there would be so much content no one would give a shit. Anyway please educate yourself before you post about copyright. Also its perfectly reasonable to use your tiles as a base for editing a whole new tileset. Some people can't make shit from scratch and shouldn't have to.
