Hey Jowie have you run it?  I just skimmed the webpost as i'm running around doing a bunch of other projects right now.  But i'm looking for something that i can run all of this stuff on ie operating system bare bones so i can stack virtual machines on each other to save having to run 30 computers at once hehhe.  Or if i am going to be running 30 machines i prefer them each to be running 10 machine or so themselves.  Was going to go with linux but in your expert SS opinion if this new one you like more for the SS i will use it.  I like that no emulation line.

Tho i suppose i am also wanting to use a bunch of the classic windows 98 subspace stuff 1.34 and earlier.

I tried it a couple of years ago and it looked a lot like window 98 back then haha.

They want to be compatible with windows XP for now (even drivers!)

They are also building a windows xp style shell that can even replace the default shell of windows 8. (shell is your desktop, taskbar, etc and the way windows are layed out)

If you pledge $20 (this is what i did) you can pick an app, and their developers will make sure it works.

Anyway I have not tried a recent version, I am posting this because I think it is a very interesting project :p

Great i'll toss em a 20$ then.  heheh did you pick SS for your app?

I'll download it.  I"m looking for something that i can run as a virtual machine hopefully a lot of them.  So a nice little operation system would be perfect.

ps we have to get some more playing in soon!

lol I was about to ask Jowie that but I figured if you tossed your 20$ it would certainly go for SS.

Would want them to make the old version of SS work or continuum?  :good:

I think they will ask for the specific app at the end of the campaign.

Maybe we should coordinate who picks what :p

Might also be wise to test if things already work. There is a good chance things like subgame and mervbot already work.

I noticed that the original subspace client no longer works on newer windows btw.

So, possible applications:

  • Continuum 0.40 (I am thinking about picking this one)
  • Subspace 1.34 / 2.00 (I have no idea what the difference is between versions)
  • Subgame
  • Mervbot
  • Subbill
  • ASSS
  • DCME

Any more?

Oh btw their requirement is that the application works on Windows XP.

i've gotten most of the original SS to work on windows 8. i've had more problems with windows 7.

Tho you have to do some compatibility things with the graphics options.

i got 1.34/1.34d/1.35  i'll keep a list posted with what i had to do to get them going.  Also i think there are a few versions of 1.35 out there.  Also got some of the servers to allow 1.34 without the crack.   Also was working with the CD copy.

try logging in a ship to SSDZ KOAS South  seems like i can get most things to conect have you ever gotten *discretion by bak 0.42  or one of the other alternative clients to work?   I was playing with that the other day but no luck connecting to the newer biller.  I'll try with some of the other ones later on.  Right now i'm trying to break my bot record i'm going for 100-200.

Jowie do you know if you can add multiple whitelisted ip's? haven't tried just adding 2nd Ip to the value yet.

Windows XP is good for our classic game and accessories ;)

But i like the idea of us working together on supporting an emulator to save us problems as the operating systems continue to progress.

I do not know about subgame, but in asss you can whitelist VIE players using the module "auth_vie". Simply place in global.conf:

[VIEnames]
SnrrrubSpace = any
pub0bot = 127.0.0.1
Probe1 = 65.72.

Anyway, I just voted for Continuum 0.40 as my indiegogo reward in a preliminary vote (closes tomorrow). Also, apparently more votes for the same thing will make them supporting it more likely (this was not really clear at the start of their campaign :/ ).

The final vote will be at the end of the campaign.
