To those responsible for the attack on PB's server, a little warning. The owner of the server is a corporate level IT security specialist with decades of experience. You are also interfering with business services as well, which indicates far greater damages beyond disruption of a "game server." We both have contacts in multiple federal agencies, and I have family with Federal Bar privileges. I sincerely hope this does not trace back to a domestic IP address for your sake.

And by the way, if you ever logged into PB in the past, we have the full client data on your machine (which has forensic value).

Stag thanks for posting. It echoes some of my posts in the 4v4 League forum in which I attempt to encourage the perpetrator(s) to reconsider their actions and the risks therein. I will repost here now since most people seem to be reading this thread.

I'm not sure the perpetrator(s) are aware they are committing a felony under US (and other country's) laws with significant mandatory jail time and fines associated with this crime. The host of the game server, which is not a small company, will not look on this attack lightly as they would not wish for any of their business to be affected.

This is a game that people hopefully have fun playing and talking in that is completely player run and funded - a number of us, myself included, pay money every month to keep the lights on.

The rules to be able to keep playing on these private servers are mostly pretty easy going - at least in Chaos you have to ignore copious warnings and break the rule(s) over and over to get banned for any length of time (except for actual hacking which we see maybe once or twice a year [which is technically difficult and never by regular players who, you know, want to keep playing]). Netbans from any zone are very infrequent and exactly two people have been netbanned this year from any zone.

The list of people that would do this is quite small. Does the perpetrator realize their situation? Do they really think the risk is worth it? Does the perpetrator really want a visit from the FBI? I'm not sure they are thinking very clearly about this.

The facts are that this person(s) has broken criminal laws that exist in a large number of countries and that there is collateral damage being done to companies and services other than just our little pew pew game. None of us can say what the repercussions for this person(s) might be and what resources might be leveraged in an effort to stop the damage and make sure it doesn't happen again. I imagine this person thinks they are untouchable, but is that really the case? There are many avenues along which consequences of various types could find their way back to this person(s).

This person isn't thinking clearly and I'm just trying to assist them in perhaps making wiser choices about the course of their life.

Just got a message from Priit that the ip will be re-enabled on Thursday. :)

The hosting company is not real thrilled with the DDOS attack. Obviously, they haven't met our community. No one is thrilled except that moron who is probably going to be hunted down by our own Continuum Anonymous.

Not advocating, just sayin' ...

HZ back online, but on a new server so update your lists.

Also since he is alive, put Priit together an update on the ips so new HZ server is on SSC; GW/T3 should be back on SSC when they recycle, and Powerball and Deva when they get back online.

HZ should auto-update if you've updated it in the last several years, the auto-DNS thing is pretty cool.

Hyperspace unfortunately wasn't using it but it should be on directory now.

Can someone get me in touch with the Power Ball sysops / owner. I personally love the zone and game and would like to get their permission to at least keep it alive within TW, with their permission of course.

Any contact details anyone has for them would be appreciated. Thanks.
