 but none the less I did end up banning this player to tm_master said was cheating in Devastation as well. Tm also said that shortly after banning the player the server got attacked and went offline.

I assume this happened on Jowie's server, since he lacks my module to prevent cheating.

I am not sure which module you are referring too, but security:security, security:enc_cont and deva:antihack v1.3 are all loaded.

 

Some of continuum's anti cheating methods also take a short while to notice the cheating. And even then the player only gets a kick or a lagout.

It's going to take a few more days but what Priit had to say after contacting the provider was that they have blocked the attack at major peering points and they are working on restoring service. Hopefully, he will get an ETA soon.

Directory Servers should still be functional, no need for custom IP/port. SSHQ stats monitor the following directory server...

This attack wasn't exactly a "I'm going to take down the servers today" style attack. This had thought and planning put in by the details coming in from the servers and hosts. The shear amount of bandwidth being used in this attack was put one way as "DDoS attack of multiple 10s of gigabits".

 

It will take a few days for everything to recover, but in the mean time if anyone hears of or knows of any details, please pass them on.

I just messaged Priit to see if there were any updates and to offer my assistance.  I haven't heard back yet but it's only been a few minutes and sounds like Mom is already awaiting more info - however I assume he is a pretty busy guy.  I'm just really pissed off that someone would do this.  Continuum isn't even a commercial venture and I take this very personally.  Whoever is doing it must be a real shithead and I'm willing to volunteer my time to help get to the bottom of it and resolve it.  I find it difficult to believe that the ISPs took all this time to deal with it and that it is still a problem.  Although I am not active at present, I have managed several large networks for financial institutions in the past.  If whoever is doing this is reading:  knock it the fuck off... white becomes gray, gray becomes black.

The attack wasn't only an attack on the servers themselves. Heck, last I heard from Powerball they hadn't really detected any direct attacks on their server. They were also going after multiple nodes, and caused outages beyond just our servers.

 

This is being carried out by someone with knowledge of networking, and a lot of hardware and bandwidth at their control.
