I'm collecting zone descriptions for a Subspace branding/promotional project. If you'd like your zone to be included, please send me the following.

1: - a summary of the current status of your zone

2: - what has changed/happened in the past 3-5 years

3: - what the best days and times are to find a game in your zone

4: - a couple of high-quality/resolution screenshots

5: - links to your zone forums/websites

6: - and anything else you would like to say to the world about your zone.

I'd like them to be official (from zone staff), but I'll take player-submitted descriptions as well.

As an example, here's what I received from Extreme Games:

Extreme Games (EG)
Extreme Games is at the summit of action and adventure, calling upon the skill sets of players of all levels, from beginner to expert. Extreme Games, or EG for short, is a zone unlike any other in Continuum. EG's settings, which enable one shot to make a kill, requires a player to sharpen his or her skills in aiming, dodging, and flying in a realistic environment that is modeled on the properties of real spaceflight! During the time Continuum has existed, Extreme Games (EG) has been one of the most popular zones available to play in; almost every player who has logged onto Continuum has no doubt at one point played in Extreme Games. And this tradition remains true today, nearly 17 years after Continuum first started as one of the most widely played online games.
Playing in Extreme Games can be perfect for the casual player who prefers a public map to play in, or for the more seasoned player who seeks to play in leagues, competitive matches, squads, and dueling arenas where the stakes are high and the outcomes matter. EG prides itself on having this unique setup, which enables players of all types to find a niche they like and enjoy it while logged into EG. Extreme Games regularly hosts leagues, where squads made up of individual players can face off, eventually leading to a winning team which receives significant prizes that can be valuable resources in EG. In the meantime, seasoned players can face off in arenas such as baseduel, or enjoy squad matches, pickups, and other venues in the zone that let players focus on more competitive aspects of the zone.
Just recently, our league hosted semi-finals and finals, which took up most of June and the early part of July. Moderated by a seasoned veteran player, the top competing squads in EG battled it out for victory. Later this summer and into early fall, we expect another league to be set up and for finalists to advance to victory once again. In addition, our public arena has seen some changes more in line with what our seasoned players look for: capped public frequencies, which occur every Thursday. Teams are limited to 12vs12, while private frequencies are capped at 10 players. This has been a very successful change to our public arena format and has encouraged longer flag games resulting in higher jackpots being won.
For the casual player, however, EG provides for a wide range of recreational events and a large public arena which features four bases for flag games. The casual player will be pleasantly surprised at the types of events that can be hosted both in the public arena and in other arenas, as well as the all around fun that Extreme Games can provide. Additionally, EG awards the top point earners and those with the best kill to death ratios every two weeks, which is featured prominently to every player when they log in. To make sure the zone thrives and grows, Extreme Games is moderated by a group of dedicated staff members who are always online and available to help players with concerns and help new players get the most out of their playing experience. This alone sets EG aside as one of the most progressive zones on Continuum due to the high level of staff-player interaction, which helps to constantly improve the zone to make it more what you the player wants.
As the demand for more technologically advanced video games continues to remain a constant force in the gaming world, old institutions such as Subspace / Continuum will remain a favorite for older players or players simply seeking a simpler, free alternative. In many ways, when Continuum was first released in 1996, it was the only one of its kind to be available to the gaming world; and today, with the passing of such two dimensional games in favor of the more graphically intense games, Continuum is once again the only one of its kind available to gamers around the world, offering hours of endless fun and enjoyment; with Extreme Games as a destination point once you download the Continuum client, you will be truly playing with some of the best players in the world. Come check us out at http://www.extreme-games.net/, we're waiting for you!

This project is going to yield great results, especially with contributions from each active zone. So please find the time to reply to this thread with a description for the zone you represent.

Thanks!

As far as slogan is concerned, I'm not pushing this campaign towards "subspace / continuum - meet people from all over the world and then kill them.."

My plan for this campaign is to REALLY push the term "free space shooter pvp mmo"

Back on topic, tho, I still need content from each zone that wants to participate.

Here's what zones have given me so far.

..

...

..

Trench Wars

Started in 1997 Trench Wars has remained hugely popular despite increased competition from more graphically robust offerings by maintaining a gaming environment that promotes competitive fun, fierce action, and integrity. Standing out from all other online multiplayer games; Trench Wars design rewards friendly and co-operative teamwork while also striving to limit the typical trolling and harassment that often spoils other multiplayer gaming experiences.

Rather than simply languishing over the years, Trench Wars popularity is has been guaranteed by maintaining focus on player experience and being responsive to player input. The result has been creative enhancements that support players of all skill levels. This rare balance has been achieved through the use of innovative features, imaginative configurations, and productive game policies.

Central to the Trench Wars zone is its public arena where players battle to capture and defend a base. Each of the 8 ship types have unique offensive and defensive capabilities which blend for a magnificent competitive equilibrium. Beyond its public arena Trench Wars has a multitude of additional faceted offerings including dueling arenas, special events, and several squad-based leagues. All of these exciting aspects make it possible for even infrequent or rusty players to log on and enjoy endless hours of entertainment.

If the non-stop basing action found in the public arena grows old, casual players are treated to a multitude of hosted special events. Held using special arenas and creative ship configurations, events represent a large variety of competitive diversions. These include; Deathmatch style dueling, uniquely styled and customized basing games, many elimination style games, racing games, sports game emulations, and even a Zombies game where the humans have a limited time to survive and escape the wrath of the zombies before they are hunted down and eaten alive.

For players who desire squad membership and league play Trench Wars supports the Trench Wars Division (TWD) and Trench Wars League (TWL). Trench Wars Division (TWD) is perpetually run and allows any player to build a squad and compete at any time; the only prerequisite is having fun. Simply grab some friends, make a squad, and kick some ass. Trench Wars League (TWL) season 18 is starting in November; it is the pinnacle of competitive league play in Trench Wars.

So come check out Trench Wars out, rediscover why it has traditionally been the largest and most popular zone in Continuum.

Death Star Battle

Death Star Battle, shortly known as DSB is still alive and kicking! Although we've gone through a rough times, we've not given up. Our player amounts have declined but all the old timers are welcomed back with warm greetings, a nice walk down the memory lane and of course, a crash course on the new activities of DSB.

The current activities in DSB revolve around the Practices which may happen any day any given time, during the week most likely times to see a practice happen are between 19:00GMT - 22:00GMT or 24:00GMT - 02:00GMT. During weekends roughly the same times apply, give or take a few hours.

The Sundays are the big league days, we currently have few leagues in our menu which we run one at a time: Back Alley Brawl League (BABL) as well as Team Combat League (TCL). BABL is a league where two teams of 3-6 players fight for a control of one flag, the team which has hold the flag for 5 minutes first, wins the game. TCL is a multi squad elimination league where squads of 3 players face each other in a big elimination map, with 10 deaths per player, the squad last standing wins, however this is not a hide and seek tournament, therefore you get more rewards for kills - staying alive is not the only thing that counts!

During the weekdays we have sometimes Duel Tournaments, Event days or 2vs2 team elimination tournaments which run for several weeks, every week at same time. Public activity is related highly to the other events taking place in DSB, however, by logging in and entering the public you might be the lucky one starting the public game!

Usually it does not take very long time until somebody else joins and you have a game going on! Best ways to be in touch with the community are the DSB Forums (www.deathstarbattle.com/forums), DSB Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/221624844634455/) and by joining the ?chat=dsb whenever you are online, in dsb chat you will get announcements when public arena gets activated as well as information about practices and leagues.

SSCX Devastation

Devastation is an incredible super-style-settings-based zone. It has the most intense base fighting/flagging and the fastest settings I have ever played in Subspace or Continuum. It has evolved from its inception in 2000 and gathering of significant population from 2000-2002 as mainly a flagging zone to its rebirth as the same in 2005 after a year of being down.

Through hard work of many, the revival was successful and the zone flourished eventually becoming a close-knit community with lots of flagging games in main arena regularly. It should be said that the zone probably has some of the friendliest and nicest players in the entire game. The zone experienced several periods of increased population from 2006 to 2011, hitting and sustaining 20-30 people at times and inspiring long flagging/basing games of 10 on 10+ at peaks.

During the latter part of this time, the zone even upgraded to as3 (a smaller subspace server) server software from the older subgame architecture, allowing for much greater modular functionality and increasing zone development for subarenas and events a great deal. During 2011 and 2012, the zone experienced great periods of sustained 20+ population, culminating in it hitting 33 players in 2012. However, due to a server update issue the zone was available only off of SSC for the latter part of 2012. Revived once again with the most developed version of the zone ever in 2013 on the SSCX server (it is on SSC with 100% security/chats/functionality but connected to the biller through a redirect from SSCX Powerball, so ignore that intro warning and hit "Ok"), we have had continued success in achieving games of 3 on 3+ reaching 6 on 6 to 8 on 8 plateaus at points during the timeslot of 12am-8am eastern (GMT -5)-becoming the nightly and early morning hangout for many who want games when the other zones lie dormant.

Coming into the zone and typing ?arena -a will list countless arenas that are able to be hosted and are in development in Devastation. Through the hard work of former staff/players like XDOOM and SOS to the new era developers such as Hakaku, resoL, Ahmad~, and Devastated the zone has several subarenas/event ideas that are easily hosted and popular such as baseduel variants (most popular at this time being ?go bdb which purifies the basing gameplay and shows off the brilliance and intensity of the zone's non-1-hit-KO settings-with a first of 2 teams to 5 killoffs/enemy safezone reaches protocol) some of which feature bots with full !stats/ranking with !topbd, an excellent ?go hockey arena with semi-automated hosting and stats rundown after games, ?go duel with player challenges for itemless duels with bot and stats by typing !stats, ?go prodem (promotion/demotion of ships event), a great ?go elim arena with several player-votable gametypes auto-hosted when 2 or more players enter, and the newer events include ?go bab (deva turf flagging where two teams fight for possession of turf flag(s) for 3 minutes, best 2 out of 3 rounds-with bot and full !stats and !topbab ranking), and racing events: funrun (has a bot to autohost with 2 or more players in and !top 10 time rankings), quickrace, racee, racea, raceb, mazee (all with ?best and ?trackbest commands). The newest events in development are golf and airhockey. Of course, there are also many more.

Also, Ahmad~ (smod and bot developer in SSCX Devastation) has recently developed a rosterbot for possible bdb (basedueling) and bab leagues. You can create a squad (doesn't have to be the same as your SSC squad nor does it change it) in Devastation for possible future league matches. You can type !createsquad and to invite players type !invite and also !roster to see the full player list for that squad. You can also type !help to any bot in Devastation for more commands in rosterbot. If you come during the timeslot of 12am-8am eastern (GMT -5), chances are a game will be going on at some point during that time. Having been with Devastation since its inception in 2000 as staff and co-owner since 2005, I can honestly tell you the zone has a tightly-knit extremely nice playerbase and good staff who organize games and the settings are quite balanced and sell themselves. I still actively participate and organize as many matches as I can. If you have never played the zone before, it is extremely fun and you will be hooked after 1 game. If you remember the zone from years ago, it is the best it has ever been right now. I look forward to seeing you all for some games in SSCX Devastation!

The zone's official forums can be found at http://www.subspace.co/forum/244-devastation/

Thanks for reading!

I thank everyone who submitted the above statements.

We're still missing a few.

Keep in mind that the Email Newsletter will only display one or two short paragraphs, activity times and a link to their website(s). The complete zone descriptions/synopses you see above will go on subspace-continuum.com and/or the "Free Space Sim Combat Shooter PVP MMO" niche website. I'm pretty sure we can at least get on the first page of Google (if not first RESULT) when someone searches "Free space mmo"... If we would only target those keywords we'd already be there. We are popular.. We've been around a looong time.. We ARE a "free space mmo". In fact, we are probably the 'free space mmo'. With a TON of backlinks and the phenomenal word-of-mouth advertising associated with Subspace - we can certainly #1 some search terms.

Anyone disagree?

Alright! Looks like that's all the zone descriptions I'm getting (for now). No sense prolonging the release of the first monthly newsletter. I'm going to finish creating this awesome template in accordance with SendGrid's guidelines (actually using all their tools / API, exclusively).

If anyone has any input on the email newsletter please refer to this thread ----->  http://www.subspace.co/topic/27100-subspace-email-newsletter-campaign/
