Vidiot_X Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Hi, I have been setting up Linux here on my system all seems to be going well. I am able to compile and generate apps. So Phoenix on Linux is now a reality. But, even though the code is portable there are issues unique to Windows and Linux. Enough so that I will have two slightly different versions of Phoenix ( code wise ) for Linux and Windows. So delaying a Linux release is preferable, at least until I have the core frameworks locked in. This leads to the question how many out there are actually using Linux. I'm really interested in the zone operators and what they are using or prefer to use in OS's. So if your using Linux or plan to in the near future post here let me know. Thanks,- Rich - Quote

»Lynx Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 I use Linux. (I couldn't see the poll?) Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 (edited) A few people i know would have played continuum if it could have been set up on Linux without them having to do extra work by running windows on Linux etc. Some others got a mac or switched to Linux because of school or work and had to retire from subspace. Though most people i know who use Linux are hackers, White hat hackers, but.. meh i know a few black hats too, they would pretty much take out continuum if they weren't too lazy to install it. (Fortunately continnum isn't important enough) Basically if you open up Linux you are inviting some PC savvy intelligent people into your game, generally speaking. And yes there are people out there who can unban every 5 minutes, and make a mockery of continuums security, and mods powers. Probably the encryption too. Edited October 31, 2012 by Lone Outlaw Quote
Vidiot_X Posted October 31, 2012 Author Report Posted October 31, 2012 There is no poll, I forgot I could even do that. But in this case knowing who using Linux would be helpful to me as I can single-them-out for testing purposes. But I will put up a poll as well for those who wish to remain anonymous. Edit - Poll here: http://www.subspace.co/topic/26733-which-os-do-you-use-for-gaming/ - Rich - Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 Keep in mind when interpreting those results that continuum basically only works on Windows. So anyone reading these forums regularly enough to vote is going to be heavily biased in that direction. Quote
Vidiot_X Posted October 31, 2012 Author Report Posted October 31, 2012 I would tend to agree but it always best to ask. Quote
