cont Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 (edited) Where are they? I haven't seen a single jr mod or a mod host anything or event. The only mod that i've seen actually doing something is spidernl. Having an increase of hosts not only helps raise population, but it keeps players here too. Nowadays when someone enters, they take a peek at f2 and see who is playing and decide whether to enter and dedicate their time to playing; however usually the case is they leave. Cheese Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 silly newb, hyperspace doesnt have any events Quote
spittnacid Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 silly newb, hyperspace doesnt have any events I think the point is, is that it could. Centering gets boring and there aren't enough playing for a flag game sometimes(ok alot of times) and it would be nice to have more things to do. Also if ppl knew ahead of time of an event, they could plan ahead to take part. On that note, there's no need to over complicate things with deciding on times, making teams etc etc. Just post something like 200k fg this Saturday starting at noon... just as an example. Things also as simple as base races could be easily moderated and don't need any scripting. Spidernl could just give the mod some money to put up for prizes. Quote
Jareth Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) There are baseraces and a few other small events in ?go tetris, bombline, hyperball, and wherever racing is now. They aren't hosted very often anymore. Most of them believe that it kills the zone's population when they host them. Psythe was working a few events (domination, polarity) not too long ago, but they never get hosted. The zone needs more staff to be able to actually host events. spidernl Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 A major problem is that "subarena events" tend to require quite a lot of people. They also tend to kill the zone for a couple hours after being hosted. Quote
cont Posted October 30, 2012 Author Report Posted October 30, 2012 A major problem is that "subarena events" tend to require quite a lot of people. Psythe and some other people demonstrated 'Juggernaut' in pub, which seemed to attract a lot of attention other than the normal rabbit. Quote
Unix Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 I would actually like to see more pub based events. I'm sure instead of 7 different bases, we could limit it to four bases or something and have sectors designated and specific arenas. That could help alleviate the entire events kill pub thing Quote
spidernl Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 I've always said that the number of bases we have is higher than it has to be, so I agree with you there. Not only would it open up the map for other interesting things (could be events, could be 'gameplay elements' yet to be developed), it would make it easier for mappers to set up a new map if they'd only have to replace 4 bases. Easier to balance them, too, and not have one out of 7 be awfully over- or underpowered. Quote
Swift Warrior Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 In my age old experience of base when I actually played back then, I would say 3 bases are best, and the rest being reworked to do something else. As for events, mods have no obligation to host events (unless brain wants to change that), and its mostly a spur of the moment thing. Unless you guys want another "dedicated" event master again like last time. Quote
cont Posted October 31, 2012 Author Report Posted October 31, 2012 (edited) Unless you guys want another "dedicated" event master again like last time. Would be a good idea to have more than one. Edited November 1, 2012 by cont Quote
Samapico Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 I say, 4 bases, one in each corner of the map, and 4 smaller areas between them (where b2, 4, 6 8 would be) where events can be hosted... and the upper one could stay as the scrap & salvage, still leaving 3 areas for various events. The HT jump gates could be repositioned, evenly distributed with 3 on each side instead of 4. Left and right gates would lead to center, top gate would lead to scrap & salvage, bottom gate would be... not there, I guess (or just lead to center as well?)Gates in each corner would be a base. And no gates would lead to the event areas, because a module/mod would handle that. Edit: Something like this: EA, EB and EC being 3 event areas,Purple squares being jump gates (jump gates not shown in B1, B2, B3, B4)B8 being scrap&salvage Quote
Corey Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 Revamping center for things like this arent as easy as it sounds, however that is a good idea to keep event based games in pub. It just takes a lot of work moving the gates. I would do it if I had the right computer, but unfortunately for me... I'm on a Mac, and my laptop that I had everything for ss on crashed and won't start up, and I just don't want to pay the money to fix it right now. Quote
Guest summerglau Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 (edited) I'm working on reworking spidernl's chatnet client into a full featured chatnet client in .NET with bot scripting language, mod commands and auto event hosting with simple right-click menus kinda got waylaid by a ban though and I misplaced spidernl's email address..... never wrote it down why don't we just crowdfund brain double his salary to quit his job and come do subspace full time??? bet unix could crowdfund that in no time..... or better yet, why doesn't unix crowdfund herself to create a programming language version of translate.google.com and microoutsource (that way they don't know what they doing) all the code work to complete a full fledged modular system which can program and translate any language into any other language, using automated speed tests for new submissions vs old submissions.......... machine code-assembler-c-c++-c#-java-gerkin....... I mean if you had all those languages in an exhaustive translator which was created bit by bit by micro-outsourcing, then you could really write modules in any language you felt like.... in fact, programming itself would become a drop down selection box.... with side by side views of languages to teach yourself whatever you wanted to learn...... Edited November 11, 2012 by spidernl Cleaned up that mess. That you, Arry? Quote
Dr Brain Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 It was Arry. Fixed the ban to cover his new IP, and hopefully any more he can easily get. Quote

Guest summerglau Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 Ok, not gonna mashup this one, it's really a summary of all my posts so it should stand alone..... There's this little cheese in my head that's over trolling www.robertsspaceindustries.com....he's posting a video on their forum.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmoKhFJRUOk anyone on the minecraft chat should realize that 3d subspace will probably be a minecraft mod..... Lone Outlaw Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 Really if he bought a modem, you would be banning ip's forever, or have to resort to banning the whole country. Which would coincidentally get everyone else banned.. Either that or he could just get a laptop and use wireless connections across the city. LOL.. or mask ip's, i just don't see the point to bans, bans work against lazy people, if someone wants to unban they will =/ Quote

I assume his netban is still in place. I wasn't thorough enough with the IP block. Fixed it now, and banned his summerglau account for good measure. Also removed the awful sig. Quote
Corey Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 This topic seems to have been derailed... Back on topic, who's even staff there anymore? Who still hosts? Quote
spidernl Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 (edited) The staff list is in news.txt. No1ButU was recently hired and has done a few jackpot boosts. Noldec is still mod, doesn't host much but sure is active. I do the occasional jackpot boost myself. Rivel's around, not sure what he does. Psythe's also around, and I know for a fact that he did something that seemed like hosting (as I had to clean up some 50000 ?quickfix changes left in the configs that he undid with more ?quickfixes. Do me a favor next time, Psythe, and just delete your changes instead of making more changes to put things back to how they were ). Edited November 13, 2012 by spidernl Quote
Rivel Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 rivel does a lot of behind the scenes work, if you know what i mean Quote
spidernl Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 Ah, yes, behind the scenes work. Could you get back to doing that? Who else is supposed to fetch me a beer while you're here wasting time on the forums? Make sure it's cold this time. Yes, I know the chain cuts into your ankles when you get them from the fridge, but hey.. no pain, no gain! Quote
Cheese Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 what is it about hs staff that they feel the need to hire the absolute worst people possible for the job, and then wonder why nothing ever gets done? Quote
