Arry Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Certain aspects that made HS fun in the past sort of got jacked because only a few players were good enough to actually pull them off, and it was viewed as unfair because seemingly one person got a huge reward, or affected the outcome of a match in a huge way all by themselves..... Two aspects I actually miss are runwinning, and sneaking past base defenses using a cloaked ship..... Why these two aspects were fun??? It was the thrill of trying to thwart a whole team or the whole zone, all by yourself...... my adrenaline never raced so much as when runwinning with a ton of people trying to stop me or when I would get through the last defending player using cloak (hoping there wasn't another cloaked ship waiting for me in flag room!!!) I'm not saying go back to the way things were, I'm saying, perhaps pruposefully design a few expensive ship builds, that would give you chances to have adrenaline rushes of you-vs-the-world if you could pull off mastering that ship build.... IE... the ship build still needs mastering in order to pull off such a feat.... In the current item set, x-radar is just too cheap and too common, every player has it if they want to.... and with 10-20 ships in a good flag game, chances are someone is gonna have it..... As for runwinning.... not really sure how to bring that back..... I just know the adrenaline rush was great! Perhaps before "fixing" the zone in the future, we should ask if our "flaws" aren't features.... Quote
spittnacid Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 I agree with that rush hehe and its kind of a buzzkill when you are half way through the base and someone obviously notices you cos they have tach. What if cloak were a sig and only cloaked ships could see other cloaked ships? If you fire you still drop out of cloak but you no longer can see other cloaked ships. Kind of a dimensional shift that energy weapons disrupt throwing you back into the the normal dimension. Kind of a cat and mouse game which would be very thrilling imo. Oh yeah a cool down on the cloak so someone doesnt just spam Ctrl, Shift+Home over and over. Quote
Arry Posted October 9, 2012 Author Report Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) that actually sounds like a really fun idea to me.... cat and mouse cloakers with nobody else in on being able to see.... except maybe oracle..... but you'd have to make oracle high experience or money or some other way which would ensure that it would not be easy for every person to have an oracle build..... cerium or was it arnk.... was always right about oracle being overlooked..... if it was the only way to see cloaks without being a cloaker yourself.... that would really make it more of challenge to pass up for one of the other sigs..... I always viewed oracle as like a River Tam ability...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di1G6O9HP6w Edited October 9, 2012 by Arry Quote
spidernl Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 X-Radar isn't nearly as big of a deal as base design. The current generation of bases has few alternate routes, generally narrow hallways and choke points you can't really sneak through. Even if the enemy team doesn't see you, odds are they'll kill you since you can't rep away their gunline. Quote
Arry Posted October 10, 2012 Author Report Posted October 10, 2012 yes, but not being seen because your invisible is way funner than slipping past in a narrow corridor.... the adrenaline rush just isn't there..... Quote
cxc Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Basically it is like that today, no one uses x, or anti. When i am in the game not lancing my next ship i seem to be in is the lanc defender, it has oracle, so i have l2x and aw on all the time. It is not often that i get to play other ships because no one wants to turn x or anti on. Quote
Arry Posted October 10, 2012 Author Report Posted October 10, 2012 I haven't played in several resets.... so keep that in mind... I just started playing again recently using "Johnny Snow" Quote

Unix Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 The problem with run winning is that anyone could do it and it was utterly lame. Get a ship with a port or two on it, fast enough and run around HT. Running in this game is incredibly easy and killing a runner in this zone is incredibly hard. Cloakers are still effective in this game, limited number of players use aw or x. Even if you account for the gunlines, cloakers still have the element of surprise. Quote

Not anyone could runwin against the pro run-winners...... I forget who was very pro at run-winning when I first join the zone.... I think he was on Brick Warp... his name is on the tip of my tongue...... And when several good run-winners correlated their efforts to stop you, it was a real challenge.... not anyone could pull it off..... You are missing the point about cloaking.... you're thinking in terms of effectiveness... I'm thinking in terms of adrenaline rushes..... You nerds are going off topic lol Actually, since we're nerds, we might be on topic and just going over your head Edited October 10, 2012 by Arry Quote
Cheese Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 the terms "pro runwinner" and "pro deepthroater" can be use interchangeably, but they both still suck dick Quote
