Arry Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 We want to add content that will bring the pros back to playing more than content that will add a ton of newbs who can't read the first bright green instruction on how to buy stuff..... If we gain too many newbs, we're going to have chat full of newbs, and zone full of newbs and we'll need a lot of mods/jrmods to handle all the newbs.... which is fine, but we want the core players first.... people who played through a reset and got bored.... we want to bring them back... And I don't think it's a bad thing at all that the zone kinda screens people out like "u must be this "smart" or ask for help before you can play in this zone" We are so newb friendly because we have a good community who's willing to help newbies..... I say, if they can't follow instructions or don't ask for help.... let them go.... we don't need that kinda pop until we get things kicking on all gears..... Quote
spittnacid Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 They're sure fun to kill though... kinda embarrassing when you get killed by one though lol I'm not making excuses for them but i think the reason why they're so needy and cant read is because all the other games they play don't require typing other than to send a chat ingame. I'm for a GUI cos quite honestly I'm too lazy to type. I'm here to play a game, if I wanna type alot of stuff I'll open up notepad. Old players are like old people in RL, they can't handle change. Maybe the population is dying cos the players are dying... FOR REAL! lol I'm just kidding. Quote
Arry Posted October 9, 2012 Author Report Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) Dang... I'm old at 32.... Well... the problem with games today, is they think better graphics = better gameplay..... that's been the trend for years.... and they actually stopped pouring much money into the developement of game ideas..... in order to pump them into game graphics and "realism".... NEWS FLASH: NOBODY WANTS 100% REALISM IN A GAME! IT SUCKS TO HAVE TO DRIVE THE SPEED LIMIT ALL DAY ONLY TO GET TOLD SLOW DOWN IN A FREAKING GAME!!! Any good game will make tedious real life stuff abstract, not try to gungho make it like real life.... like this is why arnk's ammo system failed.... nobody really wants to spend all that time on a tedious real life task!!! Real life is good - Abstract real life is better - now take it up a notch to sci-fi - now take all those tedious sci-fi stuff and make them abstract... and boom, you have a good game. The point is, the focus on realism in graphics translated to realism in gameplay, which really f'd up most games in the past 10-15 years Edited October 9, 2012 by Arry Quote
spidernl Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 A good GUI is practically impossible to make. Issues are lag (thus slow responsiveness or, worse, inaccuracy), lack of 'proper' input methods (such as the mouse), and lack of 'good' ways to display the GUI. Yes, there's LVZ, and those are a must, of course, for anything like this. However, for things like dynamic text, you run into issues such as the hard-coded limit of ~32,000 object IDs, 255 image IDs, and the fact that using such a large amount of 'IDs' requires a substantial amount of bandwidth. Now, I personally think that the bandwidth issue can be avoided by simply 'cutting ties' to any player in a GUI. You stop sending them position packets from other players and vice versa, which translates to both less bandwidth required for the server and the client. However, the hard-coded limits are an issue. At most you'll be able to 'dynamically' display 500 characters or so. And that's likely to be a high estimate. Now, a smart GUI based around 500 characters can still be useful, so even this isn't a show-stopper. The input methods are going to be fairly annoying still, however. You could use 'flight' controls (rotation, thrust), or stick to keys such as the Decoy and Brick keys. However, those are far from ideal. And.. last but not least, there's the development time that'd be required to implement a GUI. And you might just end up with something that works awkwardly and is generally worse at doing its job than the text-based system we have right now is. Quote
cxc Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Only thing that bugs me about the text based system that when you sell somthing you need to type its entire name, i think this is a saftey thing or somthing but i find it annoying. you canbuy exowhich is greatbut when its time to sell need tosell exoskeleton Quote
Arry Posted October 10, 2012 Author Report Posted October 10, 2012 I agree, just like windows programs have "never show me this again" checkboxes, pros should have a "turn off sell security" option..... Quote
spidernl Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Why are you selling items so often that it becomes a problem anyways Quote
Arry Posted October 10, 2012 Author Report Posted October 10, 2012 doesn't matter, as a verteran it's my perogative to sell items for any reason I want to and not tell you why. I may be milking the zone in a way you haven't figured out yet and I want to keep it a secret or I may just be trying out all the items on the buy menu to see what's best...... bottom line is I don't play the zone like everyone else, and I hate being hassled by measures to protect myself when I'm fully capable of protecting my self on my own..... kthxbai Quote
Cheese Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 and its his perogative to not waste his time on useless shit Quote
cxc Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 (edited) Why are you selling items so often that it becomes a problem anyways Because there is no good armor till you get to adam, and it takes a while to get there. If you play in center you change your armor based on who is out there. And may do it multiple times a day. I have not been centering that much but i will still alter my ships when basing to counter what i see there. I will swap guns too. In base i can perma spam pea, but if have rushers with exo need to change to pulse or plasma. May need to stop to recharge but can then mow down the rushers. Edited October 10, 2012 by cxc Quote
