spittnacid Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Where can I download the current tileset to use in dcme? and is 3.4.16 the version of dcme to use? thx guys! Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 The current tileset should be a part of the current map file. I'm not sure about DCME versions, though. Quote
Samapico Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 3.4.16 sounds good... just open the current hs map and you'll have the tileset, you can even export it if you want to use it in your own map. You'll find the map in your Continuum/zones/SSCE Hyperspace directory Quote
noldec Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 pspub10b.lvl is what you're looking for. Quote
spittnacid Posted October 3, 2012 Author Report Posted October 3, 2012 Yeah I forgot that it downloads the map... it's been a loooong time since i tried my hand at map editing but I wasn't sure which of the lvl files to use so I deleted them all and reentered game to redownload latest and than imported tileset from it. What do you guys think of bases with multiple paths and multiple possible flag rooms? It may break up all the mindless cluster battles and add some much needed strategy and team work. Quote
cxc Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Sounds like the turf concept that spider keeps talking about but a much simpler implementation. I am willing to give it a go. Hopfully if you design a base psythe will insert it into one of the 7 slots so we can give it a try. Quote
spittnacid Posted October 3, 2012 Author Report Posted October 3, 2012 Is there a way to import the ship sizes for testing maneuverability Im most worried about the lanc being so big and wondering if making some paths in the base size restricted, another way to break up the players so its not a big cluster. It will probably take me a couple of days but I'll submit one. Who, where, how should I submit it? Quote
Corey Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 You can submit them to me... Wait no that's not right. Oh yeah, submit it to psythe Quote
Cheese Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 thats not right either, psythe doesnt do anything Quote
spittnacid Posted October 6, 2012 Author Report Posted October 6, 2012 Well I made a map but to be quite honest Im not happy with it so I don't think i'll be submitting it until im ok with it. Laying out the idea of the map is not my strong point but I love tiling! If anyone has a GOOD map idea I'd be more than happy to make it for the game, I just need at least a layout of it. It's more like grunt work I guess but I don't mind and would probably enjoy making someone elses idea. All I'd ask is shared props if there is such a thing in making maps. Quote
spidernl Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 Make an experimental base with two attack paths. Like, a front and back door. Might want to balance out that 'disadvantage' with relatively powerful and plentiful choke points. Quote
spittnacid Posted October 6, 2012 Author Report Posted October 6, 2012 This what I cam up with so far... not a back and front but 2 side entrances, I kinda got lazy as you can tell. I really like the top half, it's the bottom half I think sucks. The small tunnels are also a bit hard to nav in dcme test mode idk if it's the same ingame.... not sure how to test with actual client. if pic doesn't show try https://www.dropbox.com/s/6gpc0c5kvu5e1fg/hs002wip.png Quote
Arry Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 I would recommend asking these four players what makes a good base: unix, psythe, p nut, noldec.... spidernl will add his fifth opinion on his own when he approves or denies all the others...... I picked these four players not because they are the best basers, but because they represent four different types of players who have all excelled in one aspect of the game or another.... The problem with asking the four best basers... each base has it's own strategy.... and ultimately, we'd want bases that are fun for a variety of players, not just the ones who happen to be good at basing in the current bases or any base in the past..... we need bases that incorporate a lot of different aspects of what makes HS fun.... And I threw noldec in there, not because I've seen him rock bases, but because mods always want to join in a good base game, but often don't have time to commit to building all the best ships like I've seen unix and psythe do.... and I threw p nut in, because I usallly see him in center.... and if you can make a base he would enjoy as a centering player..... then you'd have won yet another section of the HS population... Quote
spittnacid Posted October 9, 2012 Author Report Posted October 9, 2012 I think the disconnect between centering and the bases is obviously the tunnels and how its sectioned off. Its such a pain unless you have items, to get from center back to base. i forgot what zone I was in along time ago, but i played a flagging zone that was a wide open map with bases spread out all over. This allowed for very fierce constant fire fights and promoted base jumping (I think a very fun and thrilling aspect this zone can have but doesn't because its just not easily accessible). This would also be neat with private flag freqs. Quote
Arry Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 One of the problems with HS is everyone trys to take the star role in basing..... and few players are willing to take supporting roles that benefit the whole team..... it would almost be cool to have players register their flagging ships, so the once they ?flag they are limited to those ships, then a more balanced team balancer could be implemented.... that would try to put together the best teams to go against each other based on what ships players could choose from...... sure the logic sounds impossible, but I bet I could come up with most of it in 15 minutes or less, bounce it off jowie.... and we'd have the basic logic done for spider to code Quote
cxc Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 there is to much logic in the evener already. it should just make teams even in numbers. if there is a 3 vs 5 flag game, the 5 will win. Quote
Arry Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 and how is having a pre-determined outcome, fun? or even valid to be called a game??? if you want predetermined rich-people-always-win scenarios, log out and join the workforce..... Quote
