Hakaku Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 You may want to check out: http://www.subspace.co/tutorials/article/3-why-will-continuum-not-load-for-me/ It may be related to Windows DEP (see the last point at the very bottom). Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) What does DEP have to do with anything? I have DEP by default selected for all programs. And continuum has always worked. How would adding continuum to the exception list make it work? If DEP works with continuum for my PC, why would anyone else's be different? Like before when people said it can be the antivirus, if the antivirus and continuum work with my PC, then why is anyone's PC any different? It would mean it's not the programs themselves that are causing the problem. Edited July 31, 2012 by Lone Outlaw Quote
Hakaku Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 Windows DEP used to be one of the primary causes behind Continuum not loading (the point of DEP is to prevent a program from executing code from a non-executable memory). Part of the issue was fixed when Priit made a few updates to 0.40 back a few years ago, but it's not impossible for the problem to persist on some systems, in the same way that the issue didn't originally affect everyone. Antiviruses are usually a little more vocal about blocking strange applications unless you've explicitely disabled notifications. (Though, that doesn't mean it couldn't be the cause.) Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) Disabling DEP might make continuum work, but it's not whats causing the problem since DEP being active on other PCs doesn't interfere with continuum. I was reading one of the old threads linked in the Tutorial Polix posted. And they were discussing how continuum works in sandbox. Sandbox happens to give an ideal environment since its a virtual PC. So with a proper computer you can run continuum or anything without problems? So it's likely a specific difference between Pure1's PC and mine. Maybe hardware? or drivers? But i doubt it's a specific program or setting.. especially when i have the same program or setting and my continuum works. And these issues existed more predominantly in 2008. Years ago. Why are they still persisting for some people? I was thinking maybe they are downloading an old version of the installer. But they said they got continuum from getcontinuum website.
