So l tried to enter Chaos Zone and I get the message that my name 'Hitlers Oven' is obscene and restricted. What a joke? You must be joking right?

 

Meanwhile people can fly around being a Penis or a Vagina, and talking about sex with 12 year olds. (Hece, Marbred) But sexually explicit names are fine because we are all adults? (Which by the way is not true) If you were adults there would be nothing wrong with my name. To me, seeing Penis in a name is more offensive.

 

And IF we are going by what offends people. I'm sure we would end up banning half the names in subspace. So again VERY weak argument.

 

Like hitler didn't have an oven for baking cakes? My name is historical at worst. I as a person am obscene and offensive. Nobody bans me, but a name? My name is fine.

A name is only offensive if a person is offensive in conjunction with the name. (ie a Penis name talking about gay sex all the time) If i go around saying heil hitler, burn jews, fuck you and die jew, then yeah my name is offensive. If i just shut up and play, my name is just a name.

 

And anything with the word jew in it is banned in Trench wars? What another joke? So i can't be a jew? If anything that's racism. You forbid someone for being jewish. They can't express their culture now. I don't care if your reason was to prevent or blacklist/forbid people who might be racist. You also single out people who want to express who they are. Last i checked Jew is not a bad word, its a culture and a people. Now your treating the word 'Jew' as an insult equivelant to the word Nigger or Shit, that needs to be banned or monitored. How about stop being lazy and ban anyone who is openly racist one by one.

 

So i can't have any name with the word Jewelry in it now.

 

I actually know two jewish people who play the game, like the_snake etc. And they think this is retarded also. And they are not offended by names.

 

P.S Oh and this post uses bad words, you would think this blacklisting of names in game would at least extend to forums in the form of an obscenity filter.

Hitlers Oven has nothing to do with genocide. Also the name 'genocide' is not banned/forbidden. Looks like genocide is not considered offensive.

 

Hitler is a person in History, they write his name in school books. He has a wiki page. Ovens are cooking devices. I see nothing about Jews there.

 

Jews were gassed to death, not cooked.

 

Again it comes down to how a person is when they use a name, and not the name itself.

So if i was banned originally, i wouldn't have access to any original name. So making a new name doesn't mean a person switched names. Unless the person had the option to go back to old name, and decided not to? See where this is going?

 

Also im sure people are aware of what happens on their forums. They obviously don't care.

A quick reminder re zone rules.

 

Zones are not a democrocy, they are a dictatorship. You may not like the rules but there is NOTHING you can do about it.

 

Why not use a different alias and concentrate your anger on blowing up some spaceships?

Hitlers Oven would, for most sane people, refer to the fact that the nazis used to cremate jews after they were gassed. Even if it's not literal, it's not far-fetched to link the name to that at all.

 

Please, remind me why this is less offensive than someone named "Penis", which refers to something every man has (or well, almost every man).

Your missing the point though, i was told my name is wrong in the past, because one person complained to a mod that the name offended them. One out of a hundred. That was the reason i wasn't permitted to use the name. Someone got offended. If this is what people base their reasoning on, it's logically flawed, because i am offended by Penis names but it seems okay suddenly to be offended over certain names than others. (the argument being its offending someone.)

 

And there are many other things which offend people, from people in game, language, other names, even play style, etc. So the point being is that simply getting offended is not a reason to prohibit another persons 'freedom' of expression.

 

Of course no zone has to change their rules, Dav.

 

As for the reason Dick and Penis offend me in a game. It's because unlike the general masses i am not accustomed to family guy. Vulgar, stupid, rude things are not considered by me to be funny. When im in a 2D spaceship game i don't want to see Penis on my screen, it just takes away from the atmosphere of the game. i can understand if people dislike my name for the same reasons, but then i would expect people understand why i dislike their names. If one is banned or prohibited, so should the other be. I dislike hypocrisy.

 

And for arguments sake, my name can be Hitlers Mitten, and it would still be disallowed in Chaos zone, for having hitler in it. And Jew being prohibited in Trench Wars really is funny.

Someone got offended, and the people responsible of the zone were willing to kick you out to keep that person happy. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but these things usually happen to people who are being asses.

 

If penises offend you, complain to the zone authorities. If they're on your side, they'll do something about it. If they don't, do esc-f3 until the names disappear, f2 until the player list disappears, ?kill to hide kill messages from penises, ?enter and ?leave to hide entry and exit of penises, and you won't see it on your screen anymore. As for "Jew" being blocked in TW, it's safe to assume they did it because people like you kept being creative with offensive names.

Oh, and Dick is just the diminutive of Richard, no?

Samapico if you think i should do that, then people should do that if they see Hitlers Oven (hide names, hide enter and exit, ignore the player etc), i totally agree with you.

 

Also i wasn't being an ass, i wasn't even typing when that happened. If someone is being an ass in conjunction with their name, then i can understand how the name becomes offensive. Otherwise it's just a name. And they weren't willing to kick me, just the name. i was allowed back in under other names, where then if i wanted to be an ass i could have been.

 

And still i don't see how Jew is offensive. That's like saying being called Greek will offend me or is offensive. Or Italian is an insult. Or Paki, which is short for pakistani. You just make something taboo which shouldn't be taboo. In a way encouraging the community in the wrong direction...

 

Sure i agree that when someone is being offensive, they should be banned for racism/harassment, (racism rules are good) but if they are playing quietly, i don't see any problems. But i can see no one agrees or will compromise, so i'll just drop it. Plenty of zones still allow the name Hitlers Oven anyway.
