Lone Outlaw Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) That's a wierd bug. What do you mean by crashes your computer? Do you get a blue screen?Does the computer shut down?Does everything freeze with continuum still in full screen?Does the screen go black?Does everything freeze but continuum closes?Does continuum itself just crash but the computer runs fine?Does the computer become unresponsive but ALT CTRL DEL, and closing an application wake it up?Does everything freeze and ALT CTRL DEL won't even work, and you need to shut down the computer by pushing the off button? If you do have a blue screen, we'll need the message it gives you. You should also re-install continuum, and see if the bug persists. Edited July 12, 2012 by Lone Outlaw Quote

I'm in full screen, and I've had 3 different type of crashes upon hitting the TAB key to fir a bomb. 1. Computer totally freezes up with Continuum screen frozen. I have to hold down power button to get it to shut down.2. Computer crashes and reboots.3. On one occasion was able to ctr. Alt. Del to task manager and get it to shut down. I un-installed then re-installed was on for about 15 seconds, pushing the up arrow key and computer reset. Basically can't play the game on this laptop. Edited July 12, 2012 by Firkroy Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 Okay, and other games work? Try some other full screen games if you didn't already. I'll assume pushing TAB key when your not in any games doesn't crash the computer ? lol just have to ask. Quote
Firkroy Posted July 13, 2012 Author Report Posted July 13, 2012 Yes other games are fine, and the TAB key doesn't do anything but TAB. This laptop has the graphics integrated in with the AMD A6 CPU. It's supposed to be a good gaming solution. It's a pain in the butt when Subspace has been my favorite game for the last 17 years. Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) Well most people won't know how to fix it, all we could do is make you do the routine stuff. Or suggest what the problem might be. But the only person who knows their computer best is you. It's hard to troubleshoot over a phone, or if your not directly in front of the persons computer, and troubleshooting, usually involves asking lots of questions, and giving lots of information. At least for me. I'm not sure if you'll get your solution here. We can try LOGmein which would connect our computers. It's generally safe, it's based on passwords, and you need a new password everytime you open the program. So basically you give me the password you generated, and then i can connect to your PC, and try and see if i see anything that could be causing the conflict. It is a legitimate program, and it's easy to get someone offline if you don't want them on anymore, by shutting off the computer. Then they can't login again without a new pass that you would need to generate and give to them. But if we did this, it's a good idea to back up any files, delete anything you don't want another person to see. And clear browser history. Also in troubleshooting, the routine is to ask people to reinstall many drivers, and update anything out of date. As well as ensure the PC has no malware or viruses. As well as to run diagnostics on your major hardware. Of course many people will say it can't be hardware, or it cant be audio driver or something. But really we don't know, because we aren't using the computer everyday. Things you install can conflict, or something can happen over time. Stuff from the internet, windows updates, etc etc. That's why an accurate History is needed in Diagnosing patients.. I think it kind of applies to computers too =p I doubt me or anyone else here could solve the problem, but im willing to see what i can find. Edited July 13, 2012 by Lone Outlaw Quote
»ZiGNoTZaG Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Go into the sounds options and make sure 3d sounds is unchecked. If it still crashes, turn sound off and try again. If this fixes it, well then you know its an audio related, and most likely drivers. You could try changing the bitrate both in the game options and in windows. Quote
Firkroy Posted July 13, 2012 Author Report Posted July 13, 2012 Thanks for the offer but nope, I shall not be having you poking around in my computer. I managed a tech support department for a software company and know a thing or two about computers. I'll play around with some settings myself. I'm a firm believer in Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. Malware is not the issue, and I've already checked for driver updates and there are none. Thanks again for the offer. Quote

I tried turning off 3D sound first, and played for about a minute before the blue screen of death and it did a memory dump. Then turned sound off and the computer reset after a minute so I don't think it's a sound issue. Edited July 13, 2012 by Firkroy Quote
Resol Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Does the game also freeze ./ crash if you press alt+tab? Change the bomb fire key to something other than tab, see if it still crashes or not. Try running continuum by itself with nothing in the background and see if the problem continues. Quote

I think the TAB firing may have been coincidental, I've been able to fire away for about a minute before it crashes. I've closed out everything and tried it and it still crashes after about a minute. Everything seems to be fine even Alt Tabs until then. It's almost like a memory over run. Works fine for a time then crashes the computer in different ways. (I have 8 GIgs of RAM installed by the way) Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) Oh and this is a laptop.. was going to say take out the ram and put it back in. A computer is just an OS, i'll let you poke in my computer.. anything private is on external drives that i can just shut off. lol Edited July 13, 2012 by Lone Outlaw Quote
Firkroy Posted July 15, 2012 Author Report Posted July 15, 2012 I reinstalled Continuum, and when it crashed this time I actually got an Application Error with information! Continuum: Windows - Application ErrorThe exception Integer division by zero.(0xc0000094) occured in the application at location 0x0042fa4c.Click on OK to terminate the program. So does anyone know what this means? Quote
Firkroy Posted August 2, 2012 Author Report Posted August 2, 2012 Well, I crashed Windows and had to to a re-install. Problem fixed. Who knows what was wrong, but I can play on my main machine. Quote
PoLiX Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 Sometimes OS installs just don't go right, and it takes some tweaking for different users to get things to work the same. Some need to disable DEP, sometimes an anti-virus/anti-spyware programs read continuum differently than others (had to uninstall microsoft's windows defender as it kept blocking continuum, and then the dlls), and some find continuum isn't the only program with issues and a fresh install of windows fixes everything. Seems you might have fallen in the later. Thanks for the update. Quote
