»gallitin Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 Sure is a cheap price though, would have thought it would be at the $200 price point. Is there a release date yet? Quote
flared Posted July 13, 2012 Author Report Posted July 13, 2012 I downloded and installed the Windows 8 Release Preview on a partition last night and have been playing around with it a bit today. It's not as bad as I expected. I was under the impression that there wasn't even an option to use the standard Windows style desktop, but there is. Basically, when the computer boots up you are taken to the new start menu with all the tiles and such, and then you can either load up the metro style apps from there or switch to a normal, start button lacking, windows desktop. As far as I know there is no option to boot to the normal desktop by default, which in my opinion is the biggest setback about Windows 8. It feels like I'm running two different operating systems - one for a tablet, and one for a PC. While I could see the new start menu being good for on a tablet, it feels more like a roadblock on a desktop. I'll probably keep using it for a week or so and then go back to 7. Quote
Lone Outlaw Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) Who wants some company to dictate the options you need. No freedom of choice. Same with google, facebook, and every other company. Windows 7 was bad enough, hiding the admin account, setting options in power settings without asking you. Now they force you to use their desktop in windows 8, and no option to boot with the desktop you prefer? This is why im deleting anything associated with google, facebook, youtube etc, they all do the same thing. I don't need their services, they seem to think people can't live without them.
