Corey Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Ok, so last month I bought a 2001 Honda Accord V6 coupe. It's a 3.0L It has 115000 Km on it. (71457 miles) Basically I want to get the most horsepower out of this thing as possible. (turbo, nos, methane, ect) So my question to the people who have knowledge about cars is, what is the best way to do so? I want to make this a long term project, so money isn't really a problem.I understand if I drop a turbo or nos into it i have to change my pistons and rods, but I don't really know how to go about it. Where do I start? What can I do myself? Also, I don't want to engine swap. I want to work on as many things as possible to get some experience. Basically I want to make this thing a sleeper. Any feedback helps, thanks. http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/747/nationsig2.jpg
T Corey S> http://img819.images...48/87908453.png
T Cheese!> sadly enough corey, you arent ugly
T Cheese!> at least u have that going for u

Saiyan Prince Posted May 18, 2012 Report Posted May 18, 2012 Yo! Sorry last thing didnt work for ya Corey... I devised a list of modifications you could do.... Im putting them in order they should be attempted to done, as some mods wont help as much without others! I will start by saying the 3.0L engine is in no way a performance engine and I think this is a waste of time! Racing Headers,High flow Catback exhaust,Highflow Cat,Short Ram Air Intake,Under drive pully,Performance Spark WiresCrane Ignition with Dual Stage Rev Limiter, or S-afc 2Acura CL Type S Cam Swap, < This is the big power boost here, but without ^ wont do much!MLS HeadGasket/ ARP studsForged Pistons,Racing Springs,Titanium Retainers,Stainless Steel Racing Valves,Valve Guide seals.TURBO/SC/NOS
Resol Posted May 18, 2012 Report Posted May 18, 2012 Forget what ^ that dude says about 3.0 being a waste of time. That's one of the biggest honda motors they make, but by far not best. Also be careful which plugs you buy, sometimes the high performance plugs are worse than the factory grade as far as engine performance goes. A cold are intake is the best thing best thing to do, ultra cheap, ultra easy, and you get a noticeable difference in both horse power and gas mileage. Unless unless you plan to pull the motor and not be able to drive the care for a period of time, you are limited to what you can do. And if you're going to pull the motor, you may as well pick up a nice vtech motor to put in it. Which you could afford while you beat on the one that's in it and upgrade that as you do.
Corey Posted May 18, 2012 Author Report Posted May 18, 2012 The engine i have now is vtec, but i talked to a few people and i think i might just buy a tuner. spidernl Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 (edited) I agree with Sama. Huge spoilers = where it's at. Edit: Wait what, 3.0L is not a performance engine?Do you mean that kind of displacement in general, or this specific engine? 🜲 PoLiX Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 Improve the ride: Coilovers and drop it a couple inches. Maybe a sway bar, but I found just dropping my teggie to 4.5" & 5.5" improved it enough. Alloy wheels, ditch the heavy steelies. And could go low profile on the tires for looks, but not necessary. Getting a good set of A/S Sport tires is more important. Engine: Quick cheap and dirty... CAI. New plugs, wires, and (think 2001 is right for it) ignition coil. Also run some lucas oil through the engine and trani to clean em out. Emissions: If you throw on a CAI with 4+ inch tubing, upgrade your exhaust with a high flow cat and muffler. Doesn't do you a lot of good if you can suck it in faster but still can't push it out faster. Also keep away from the tuner mufflers, lot of kids think they "sound cool" but I have seen many on the market that also limit the air flow to push the exhaust through and create that sound. You can find the same style that are just well open and get a nice deep throaty sound, which I myself prefer. A few quick cheap things that you could do for under 3k easy (less if you buy cheap stuff) and improve it enough to be fun. Definately won't be no ricer, but still will give it a nice boost. Corey Posted May 21, 2012 Author Report Posted May 21, 2012 Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to start building it up, I've already got a short ram that I put in last week. But I'm going to look at full exhaust and headers next. http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/747/nationsig2.jpg
T Corey S> http://img819.images...48/87908453.png
T Cheese!> sadly enough corey, you arent ugly
T Cheese!> at least u have that going for u
