Marioman Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Make sure you downloaded the continuum installer from a trusted site like getcontinuum.com. Quote
Guest Guest Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 ya, getcontinuum.com is the only place i get it from, and i can remove the threat, and uninstall the game and all. but once i reinstall it i get the same virus again i need to know why and how to fix this Quote
hallucination Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 It's likely a false positive from AVG:http://www.avgforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1281 other AVG users are getting the same warning --hallu Quote
»ZiGNoTZaG Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) Submit your download to one of those multi engine online virus scanners. If those report it as clean, then most likely your AV is seeing it as a false positive. www.virustotal.com Edited April 7, 2012 by ZiGNoTZaG Quote
SeVeR Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) I got the same thing today with my AVG. I uninstalled continuum and reinstalled from getcontinuum.com and same problem. Now I can't even open the executable. I get the error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" Edited April 7, 2012 by SeVeR Quote
Jareth Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 It is a false positive. Add your Continuum path to the exceptions list for a temporary fix if you get an error when opening Continuum. AVG - Tools -> Advanced Settings -> Anti-Virus -> Resident-Shield -> Exceptions Quote
SeVeR Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Yep, was just about to post that I did this and it works. Thanks for the advice anyway, saves me saying it. Quote
Jareth Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 I emailed AVG about it, but I don't know if anything will happen. Quote
SeVeR Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Great, now AVG is reporting that it's finding the Luhe.Ramnit-corrupted virus in system restore... Possibly because I reinstalled continuum... I dunno. I might just turn this bloody thing off, it's a real pain. Quote
Guest Lords Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Hi, i have the same problem. When I try to start the game, get the message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" Just suddenly got this problem. All other programmes work as normal, only getting this problem with Continuum - it was worked fine yesterday. Never had this problem before. Quote
Guest Lords Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 UPDATE: Wow this is getting weird. After re-reading this thread it seems it is a problem for AVG users, which I am. So I ran an AVG Scan and it found the a Luhe.Ramnit virus - it removed it. So decided to start up Continuum again, and get weird installer messages: "Please wait while Windows configures Continuum" Next message box: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that ins unavailable".......It gives me other instructions which I follow and get different message about "Continuum.msi" about access and location. Guest Xog Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 You need to uninstall whatever continuum you have and reinstall it. It's not a virus and AVG is only unsure if it is. It's just a false-positive as has been stated previously in this thread. You are getting weird errors because AVG removed whatever part of continuum it thought was the virus and the result is missing files, so Continuum will produce errors when you try to open it. What you need to do is open AVG and add Continuum to your exceptions after reinstalling the client: AVG - Tools -> Advanced Settings -> Anti-Virus -> Resident-Shield -> Exceptions Quote
Guest sound_o_lock Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 Yeah I got it too uninstalled everything but I think it's a false positive searching their forums I found other people saying similar things. After uninstslling subspace everythingwas clean again, and it does not register on other virus programs. Just like everyone else said. http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=197068 Quote
Guest Lords Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 Ok thanks guys, I put Continuum in the exceptions list, but i still get the installer message. So do I have to uninstall the game and re-install? I have a few old names that i forgot the password to (and dont remember the email address)...so will i lose them? Quote
Guest Lords Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 UPDATE: I also have Continuum on my desktop PC, so I tried starting up the game on that one - same problem. But I followed the instructions to put the game on exceptions list on AVG straight away - and the game loaded up and worked as normal! On my other computer where i first encountered the problem - I did virus searches etc and removed the Luhe.Ramnit...which means I had to uninstall the game and re-install to get it working again. I have checked other Zone Forums and others are getting this problem too. So make sure you DON'T remove the Luhe.Ramnit virus - or you will need to install the game again (atleast I had to). Just place Continuum in the Exception list and it should work fine again. Quote
PoLiX Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 I had this issue back around the 20th of march with Microsoft Security Essentials targeting multiple files on my computer. It went after quite a few games and many random files (Adobe Acrobat had a couple files it wanted to quarentine for the same "Ramnit Worm"). In our case it seems to be directly going after the menures.dll and menu040.dll files. It also alerted me on my subgame2.exe A couple days later it stopped constantly popping up about the files, and when I scanned it didn't go after any of them. I noticed it had just updated the definitions that night, so I tossed it up to a error on their part. Going to assume it was also in an AVG update due to the massive amount of people reporting this issue on a couple of game forums. Quote
Jareth Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) AVG replied and the latest database update does not detect it as a virus anymore. Edited April 11, 2012 by jareth Quote
Samapico Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Woo! I was also surprised that my AVG suddenly started detecting Continuum as a threat... Thanks to whoever signaled it as a false positive. Quote
