polix are you playing with settings on the forums cuz my posts keep coming out crazy weird:

Anyone thought about using these for SS servers?

Some linkage:

Can't wait to buy one.

So far, the most interesting idea I've read so far was:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

QUOTE:

or should i order 40 and create my own cloud in a computer? ;=)

buy a bigtower, place in a 48port switch, put in a DC powersuply that brings 12v (because its the cheapest), create from wood slots for the raspberry"s …..

total price:

raspberrys = 35$ * 40

Tower = 100$

Powersupply = 20$

Switch (used one)= 30$

4 GB micro-SD = 5$ * 40

———————————–

1750$

Power consumption: less than 40W

Processor power: 28Ghz

Ram: 10GB

Disk : 160GB (with ultra high IOP)

————————————-

Costs to get the first placed super computer:

9123 * 1750$ = 16M$

9123 * 40W = about 365kW

9123 * 28Ghz = 255"444 Ghz

9123 * 10 GBram = 91"230 GBram

9123 * 160GB Disk = 1.2 Exabyte

And you will have the worlds fastest super computer, if you compare this to the real price of the todays super computer 340M$ …. its the cheapest solution…. ;=))))))

They're extremely useful devices for certain uses, but for the average user they're not as good as they're cracked up to be. I'll be buying a few for my company whenever they're generally available (I missed out on the first round of 'em) to act as USB to Ethernet converters.

It's not really a good target for a SS server. SubGame isn't really possible, and I don't even know if ASSS would compile properly to an ARM target.

Also getting R-Pi. They can (or will soon) come with Linux preloaded on a flash card. I will be compiling Phoenix SS for Linux (server, client,editor) as well (Lion) as Mac and Windows. I am anxious to see what they can do. The optional GERT board also looks cool,

i'm on some waiting list. I want to use it to simulate bad networks. I'm getting sick of using 3 laptops.

I also looked at CuBox which has 4 times the ram, but it also has a long waiting list.

I'm going to be using them for work as well! These will be so perfect for turning my scanner thats plugged into my PC into a portable scanner.Just gotta plug my scanner into the usb port! (after opening a notepad or some such of course)then email myself the list of barcodes I scanned for processing :D I no longer have to bring everything over to my desk to scan!Portable scanners can sell for as much as a few thousand dollars.. >_
