PoLiX Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 A month or so ago, Ratio (EG Co-Owner) bugged me about starting a chipin for advertising SubSpace. Well yesterday (or day before, god it is all a blur anymore, hah) one of his players donated $200 to the cause. Well, I wasn't going to let him down and just hold his money and do nothing with it as sadly TW has done with their massive donations (prized events are great and all, but it really isn't going to do anything for most your average players, nor trying to bring in new players). Do I think this is the answer to everything? No. Is it atleast worth a try? Sure. We will see where this goes, and Facebook has a nice tracking page for your ads that I can monitor to give updates. If you for some reason want to donate towards advertising the page is http://subspace.chip...ace-advertising but I really would rather just see where this goes first before I say lets donate. And also if we do move servers to Gallitin's server to save some costs, the extra money donated (anything left over after script costs) will also be put towards some advertising testing on other sites. The worst that could happen is we only retain 1 new player, so I don't see anything bad coming from this. But if you do come from the facebook ad, and see this post, feel free to reply. Might be interesting to see what our community gains. Quote
Cheese Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 lets see if donation money actually gets used... Quote
PoLiX Posted March 11, 2012 Author Report Posted March 11, 2012 9hrs and already gotten 24 clicks... nothing amazing, sure. But that was 24 more people visiting and possibly downloading the game. Quote
Cheese Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 how many views does this thread havesubtract that number from the clicks, as they are people who already play this game and read these forums Quote
Static Burn Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 The worst that could happen is we only retain 1 new player Why 1 new player? Isn't the worst thing that could happen is we retain 0 new players? Quote

PoLiX Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 Almost 600 clicks in 10 days. Not too terrible. More than 3/4 of those clicks ended up in a download. Where things went beyond that, sadly no way to tell. Quote
Dav Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 cant we take a look at the pop stats to see if there in an increase? surly it will show up. Quote
Resol Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Has anyone considered a repack of continuum? I know ( at least from www.getcontinuum.com ) that when you first open the client you have a zone list full of dead servers and zones which has to look absolutely terrible to anyone that downloads the game. Quote
PoLiX Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 I redid the installer not too long ago. Dunno if GetContinuum is using it or not. Might need another update. Think I still have the installer files laying around. I did however upload a zone.dat file to the downloads section, so could always link to that if need be for people with issues. Quote
Resol Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 I still find people that have no idea how to download zones. People that have played this game for 5 or more years still don't know how to download zones. Quote
PoLiX Posted March 29, 2012 Author Report Posted March 29, 2012 1,005 clicks so far. ~30 clicks left of funds based on current CPC cost. Dunno what effect it had as far as gaining new players, but we did get a lot of downloads from it. Quote
scopene Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 I will hopefully be running constant adsense banners for continuum in the near future, it's THE only way to secure the future of the game. 1,005 clicks is a brilliant return on $200 investment. Hopefully this is just the beginning and will entice more donators to recognize the potential of advertisements. Quote
PoLiX Posted March 29, 2012 Author Report Posted March 29, 2012 Downside is Junks told me who donated the $200, but I can't remember who it was. Quote
Cheese Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 polix, i strongly suggest you talk to tw about rerouting some of their ~$5000 they have sitting around into your campaign Quote
spidernl Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 $5000 worth of donations? Holy peanuts. Better hope there wasn't some jerk who decided he could use some extra money on his own bank account. Quote

PoLiX Posted March 29, 2012 Author Report Posted March 29, 2012 There is no way that web design (which honestly almost looks like a modified template, but even if not) was worth $1650. The total of that + the whole integration thing makes it a bit fishy to me. Quote
Cheese Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 the people in charge of the donation funds are incompetent, and they paid like $1000 for a website layout as per http://forums.trenchwars.net/showthread.php?42545-New-Trench-Wars-Website-Design also note the $0 for developmenti set $50 aside for incentive for me to make a specific bot, but i was too busy irl to get past 80% completion Quote
julia Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Downside is Junks told me who donated the $200, but I can't remember who it was. I believe the player in question is Agro, like 75% sure. Hi Pol Quote
