Hello all,

I am running the Windows 8 Consumer Preview which was released this week.

Continuum works, but there is no sound.

I have now tested the following:

a) Win 8 compatibility mode for Win 7, Win XP SP3, Win 95, to no avail (there are some other compatibility options which I did not test as I considered them implausible). I have no sound in any of these compatibility modes, and horrible FPS in all of them, except Win 7.

B) As suggested in-game, running in administrator mode. This did not help.

c) Toying in the Subspace options with sound quality. This did not help.

I seem to recall that on the Windows 8 developer release in 2011, it worked fine including sound (I deleted that - so I cannot compare now).

Any suggestions welcome.

Sincerely,

Solar Hydro

Well, Win 8 has some sound driver issues. Go to your MB makers site and see if they have a new audio driver available. I did this, and it fixed my issues.

I have noticed that I get terrible FPS using win 8. I went from about 200 fps on win 7 to about 20 fps on WIn 8. Any one have any suggestions?

Sad but true.

Until we get more games involved in Windows 8 issues (many are chucking it off to not supporting it yet looking at tech support forums on other game sites) gonna be hard to figure our own out.

I myself normally search for the same issues on other game forums, and normally find a fix. But as I said, seeing a lot of "We're not supporting Windows 8 just yet, sorry" type replies.

Thank you col.1. Good suggestion. I followed it.

I have a Shuttle XPS barebones system with their custom motherboard running a first-gen Corei7 chip. The Shuttle website only offers a very old audio driver.

After checking on the audio chipset, I got Realtek's AC888 latest HD Audio driver (which does date back to 2011).

Problem NOT solved :( but I'll keep looking for updates.

As to FPS, I am down to about 30ish FPS at 1980*1200 from being maxed-out before. I therefore confirm that there is also a huge FPS hit when using Win8. See also my original post on emulation modes in Win8 which are even worse for FPS.

Hoping for a solution soon!

Continuum works fine in windows 8 release preview. Getting into/out of zones takes like an extra 2-3 seconds but everything works.

Seems if you google "Windows 8 Consumer Preview Sound Not Working" this thread is the number 1 search result. Odd...

Might help those ending up here. And while you are here, [advert] maybe give Continuum a shot. Free download, Free to play, Highly Addicting [/advert]
