»Axe Demento Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Hello mighty programmers of bots is it possible to have a twitter bot be able to send out zone info? Ie Twitter bot sends information to some other program like twitter to do zone announcements or even have something cool like YOUR ZONE is ready it has 30 PEOPLE! or GIANT JACKPOT BIG MONEY! 3000 BOUNTY ship sighted! thinking about new ways to let people know when a zone is ready to play. or if they only want to play if a lot of people are in there. Next goal 40+ in chaos.I will fill the zone up.... 100 Here i come. ...Axe Quote
»Lynx Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 I believe MetalGear had one in the past and it never done too great, either way it shouldn't be hard to do if the zone is running ASSS using Python (as the Twitter API is very simple) or if somebody can be bothered to code up a module for a MERV in C++ Quote
Resol Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Yeah it did. I'm pretty sure Freakmonger was responsible for it. All it did was send a message for population intervals of 5 I think. Let me see if I can find the page. Looks like it did events as well: http://twitter.com/metalgearctf Quote
»Lynx Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 With 9 followers I'd argue it's probably pretty pointless. Quote
Resol Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Yeah, but I can't say the same of the Facebook for Metal Gear, something programmed for it to send updates to facebook might be useful, and I actually had request to use it more. The person that has access to its account is inactive, but I think something would prove more useful there. Something I looked into setting up was an SMS server that someone could set up to send text messages to a list of numbers. As I recall everywhere I checked involved having to spend money for the service. I was thinking it would be nice for a zone with active leagues to announce scheduling. Quote
»Lynx Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 True, the Facebook MG group is very active. http://www.barattalo.it/2010/03/01/php-curl-bot-to-update-facebook-status/ Quote
»Axe Demento Posted February 2, 2012 Author Report Posted February 2, 2012 the point is just to build people and allow em to play its a building tool like advertising also if you get some fun twitterbot msgs during you day can make you think about logging in for a couple of ships when you get back to a computer. or even the reverse could be fun twitter bot receives a message from outside and posts it in the zone so you can txt in your comment/mockery and praise thanks guys for giving this some attention. i will read the links. ...Axe Quote
