PoLiX Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NwEFVUb-u0 Sad but true. We know we're becoming a rare breed when we hold job fairs and see how few people have any trade skills, or understanding of the trades anymore. And what it leads to... http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/us-bridges-roads-built-chinese-firms-14594513 Another Good One:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo-cUZ2aRKc Quote
JDS Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 typical problem, people want fancy jobs like lawers, doctors, polititians, actors, computer programers. No one wants to build roads anymore... man up - lay off the mcdonalds, get in shape and do some hard labour!! the economy will get better.then again, who wants to work for 12$ an hour anymore (if they are lucky) its a mutual problem.lazy mixed with bad paying employers Quote
JoWie Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 although, there's a huge shortage of computer programmers over here haha. Quote
PoLiX Posted January 13, 2012 Author Report Posted January 13, 2012 $12/hr? There is one of the misconceptions. I am not even a full journeyman yet, and I make $22/hr (~$33/hr full journeyman). My dad an electrician makes $46/hr and my father-in-law a carpenter is making $32/hr. Over at Boeing they make even more than we do in my trade and many others. Even most Mom and Pop shops will pay ~18/hr to a typical journeyman worker. Granted, yes, it all depends on where you live. But in comparison, my cousin is a programmer making only $13/hr. And a friend of my brother in law works for google for $16/hr, which he says is pretty good for his department (forget what he does, something backend). Quote
JDS Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) you know, i watched that video, and he makes one damn good point. No one respects hard work. You mention labour, they think dumb didnt go to university. of course most of the guys i know that make 300-500 $ a day spend it just as fast... but hard work pays :/(im no exception .. 200$ a day and i have not a penny to show for it right now _) (this year will be different!!! 275-300$ a day >_< ) Edited January 13, 2012 by JDS Quote
