BZAP Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) I suggested a 2v2v2v2v... event awhile back, but the thread didn't get responses. Here's another idea that requires less work and I think many will prefer to our rather uninspired collection of events. Players keep their center ships. One simple arena. No bots needed. Ingredients:ONE event moderator.TWO frequencies.TWO spawn points.ONE oversize duelbox, obstacles if desired. Or use Namp's league map.ONE turf flag in middle of map, dings every 20s (optional).Map limits players to ships 1-2.Map specs players upon ONE death. Simple, since lagout = death and antideath nerfed (eliminated?) How to play:Both teams are split at random, placed on opposite sides of the map, and let loose on one another.Carnage ensues. If the win condition is total elimination, all survivors win money.Repeat! These rounds should be quick. Optional variations of this event are easy. Win conditions are up to the moderator who hosts. Some examples utilizing the turf flag:- First team to claim 3 flag dings (three uninterrupted 20s lapses) wins.- Team holding turf flag for 2 consecutive dings (40s) wins.- Team holding turf flag revives a player every ding.etc, etc. Edited January 6, 2012 by BZAP Quote
BZAP Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 Come to think of it, not one HS event utilizes pub ships. A "playground" akin to ?go events, but with public ships, would be great. Mass duel is just my suggestion, and I believe it is the simplest. Quote
NuB KiNG Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 cool, but this wont work, the mods are too lazy to run an event like this (even tho its simple), also its going to be a hassel to explain to players like kevz how this is played.but yeah, we need more events that arent completely boring and that require OUR ships that we made in pub to play it. spidernl Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 The reason nobody in HS' staff is particularly motivated to create new events, I assume, is the fact that the ones that we have (that are fun) like ?go race/?go events, kill the population.By moving people away from pub, you somehow guarantee the population will be lower after you're done than when you started. That's not much of a stimulus to start developing, really. Quote
Unix Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 The point of events is to have player retention after a flag game. More often than not, players stop playing after a flag win, but if an event is hosted after the flag win, more will tend to stay. If you do something after those events, such as boosting the jackpot, more players will start playing pub immediately after the event. Also, those "fun" events, they're more things that have nothing to do with hyperspace. You cant even use your ships that you built to play with. Quote

Only more variation in terms of events. I feel this idea is one that HS might enjoy. Developing? This is as simple as it gets. Quote
spidernl Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 "Developing" in the sense that someone has to make a map and tweak a couple settings. I agree it wouldn't be much work. Fact is that any event hosted at any time will reduce population. The people who spec after a flaggame will not suddenly start flagging again if they get an event hosted "between those two flaggames". They'll just spec as they would have "normally", after the event. Now, this doesn't mean that we shouldn't host, but it's a fact that hosting rarely if ever has a positive effect on population. Maybe we should work on some kind of "event system" where players who enter the zone during an event are automatically forwarded to whatever arena it's happening in. That'd mean the event has to be enter-able while it's running, though, or people will just leave anyways. Quote
BZAP Posted January 8, 2012 Author Report Posted January 8, 2012 How about sealing off b8 and turning it into an events ground? That way, players keep their center ships and events become seamless with the pub. Use ?flag to divide teams. Since players are warped to center upon death, the 1 death rule becomes automatic, except for for players with AD. Quote
BZAP Posted July 21, 2012 Author Report Posted July 21, 2012 Bumping for visibility. HS needs a different event. Honestly, the ones presently hosted are among the most dull and uninspired I've seen in any zone. Deathmatch is simple to implent and takes advantage of this zone's greatest asset - customized ships. Unix Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 I think more team vs team vs team death elimination would be ok, problem is the running issue. Quote
