RR06 Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 if i should've made a new topic, plz move the post. i'm having a similar problem- today i stumbled back into ssc and noticed that the zone i used to play in was up and running again (mg ctf) so i thought to connect and play. i had the client from ages ago and when i ran it i got the long list of zones but all red.. so i try to download zone list nothing, cant connect. got 4 directory server list thing entries that are confirmed working today: (wont list them) but still no downloading happening. i went into the wireless router and port forwarded all ports and still nothing, i think maybe its the windows firewall? (windows 7 pro) i put the exe in there and still nothing is happening. the list stayed red but now its blank cuz i removed all the zones and the download of new zones just isnt happening. some guy in another post said it was his internet? i think mine is fine cuz i can do everything else fine. please help me get back into mg ctf Quote
PoLiX Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Try turning off your windows firewall and see what happens. If it works, then the exception in the firewall is not set correctly. If you have a firewall on your router, you will be fine with the windows firewall off. Not saying you have to keep it off, but for testing just piece of mind for some people. Quote
RR06 Posted December 31, 2011 Author Report Posted December 31, 2011 (edited) i tried turning off the windows firewall, there was still nothing (zones not downloading, all red). i also found out that the (mg ctf) asss server has a different ip and port and when i tried the different details it started to connect but there is 97%+ loss at one ip according to trace... i dont understand. should i uninstall the client and try? i have vista on a separate partition and it gives the same problem so i dunno if reinstalling will help. i think i can actually connect to the server but this one ip in the trace is losing everything such high lag that i get disconnected. see link for extra details http://www.mgctf.subspace.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=62 Edited December 31, 2011 by RR06 Quote
PoLiX Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Welcome to why your ISP is one of the biggest complained about in all of the UK. Don't take this wrong, just literally I know only about TalkTalk from connection problems/complaints on other forums, and someone posted stats that it was well above 2nd place in complaints. Looking at 1 reason... your 8th hop you posted on MG's forums hasn't even left London yet. It is taking 8 hops just to move around the dang city, if not more. This sadly, is one of those times where it will probably turn out to be the ISP itself. Sorry can't give you any other solutions than that. Do you have these issues with any other games with US servers? Quote
RR06 Posted January 1, 2012 Author Report Posted January 1, 2012 you're probably right, i suspected after spending some time thinking, that its the net (isp). i play a nexon mmorpg that i believe is hosted on US servers, that works fine. in the past i was on ntl/virgin broadband and i used to play ssc mg ctf fine, even when i was at uni. so i guess it is a talktalk issue... would changing the dns server have any effect? i tried google's public dns but to no avail. F!!!!! oh well no mg ctf for me then. Quote
PoLiX Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 You might try OpenDNS and see if you get any improvements. I'm just baffled by the fact of how many hops it is doing just around your city. I mean, it could just be because you are connecting across the atlantic so it is having to connect to london's international routers, but still. Quote
