PoLiX Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Quite a few old projects and games, a p2p backbone, and skype. Dunno what else, never have dug up. Skype made him all his money. Quote
DarkFears Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Ya it wasnt so much the application kazaa itself, it was the P2P backbone, and with skype obviously it hasn't failed, microsoft just bought it for a tidy sum a few months ago. Quote

Avast Posted December 23, 2011 Author Report Posted December 23, 2011 I dont term success with short term riches. Or even money at all. I mean the fact that it failed after is a sign that those people just wanted to get rich quick, and then move on to other things. They had no care for the actual project. This is my definition of failure. People who care for their product, become Google. Or Steve Jobs. »Lynx Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 (edited) Actually he is still one of the lead developers iirc. I don't think Priit has been involved in Skype since 2005. Perhaps contractually but he needn't bother with ASI which has some ~50mln in liquid assets and likely the biggest VC in Estonia.  The only success so far is Skype, but the continuing success of Skype probably has nothing to do with Priitk. Surprise surprise, Avast misses the nail. Avast Posted December 24, 2011 Author Report Posted December 24, 2011 Thats a broad assumption if ever there was one. Unless your stalking him, or he is in forbes top 100 list. Or unless you have documents from Estonia detailing his assets. Then there is no way you could know what he has. You are full of hot air. If your going to be like that, then i can be the same, Priit Kasesalu is actually bankrupt and living with his friend Jaan on the sofa. Prit told me himself over the phone. First my argument was that the majority of things Priitk touched have failed. So what he earns, what he drives, what house he has, etc is irrelevent. I believe it also says he was worth 416 million krones. Estonia started using the Euro last year with a conversion rate of 15.65 krones per 1 euro. 416 million divided by 15.65 converts to 26.58 million euros. That converts to 34.73 million U.S. dollars. Avast Posted December 28, 2011 Author Report Posted December 28, 2011 Well seems like anything Priit worked with was a failure. What other projects besides subspace and Kazaa are credited to him? Priit being a success or failure was never the argument. Everything stated about him was already obvious, and well known. I dont term success with short term riches. Or even money at all. I mean the fact that it failed after is a sign that those people just wanted to get rich quick, and then move on to other things. They had no care for the actual project. This is my definition of failure. People who care for their product, become Google. Or Steve Jobs. People who don't become Priitk, with a little wikie article, and some credits to some dead apps. The only success so far is Skype, but the continuing success of Skype probably has nothing to do with Priitk. I never disagreed Skype was a success. I just don't think it's continuing success is due to Priitk's involvement, considering Microsoft owns it now. Which means its success can't be attributed to him if he let it go. First my argument was that the majority of things Priitk touched have failed. So what he earns, what he drives, what house he has, etc is irrelevent. These are not the criteria for success that i care about. Kazzaa failed. Subspace is failing. His projects have not been a success, and that's all. Kazaa and Subspace failed. That's all there is to it. You can post about his company all day. But these hardly mean anything about an individual. First of all his company is founded by Jaan, and various other founders. He has always followed Jaans lead. And has been more of a follower. Saying I am the best because my squad is the best is similar to the retarded logic you are using here. You are not good because your squad is undefeatable. You individually can suck. What makes the success is a combination of players. So therefore even in your exampls, if we were talking about Priitk, all you proved is that a bunch of people and a company have found minimal success. Yes in the world of business 37 million is nothing. As well I have no idea if this money is in assets or actual profit. Because if it's the company worth, then it means the Name of his company is a success and not even him. Since he can't just take 37 million and go. And yes I got owned on the argument I never made. Because the majority of you can't read, and can't defeat my real argument. So you make a Straw Man Fallacy. A straw man is a component of an argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position. To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by replacing it with a superficially similar yet unequivalent proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position. Oh damn I just made you all smarter. Perhaps you can attempt to take on the troll god with your new found knowledge. Quote

Resol Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 (edited) I think Avast did this review, and now you know why he's mad a priit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=925Wk85i-Yw Edited December 28, 2011 by Resol Quote
»Xog Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) I absolutely do not believe Kazaa or subspace was a failure. What makes you think that? Because Kazaa went through a lawsuit and was taken down by government laws? Because the dwindling population in subspace is attributed to Priit in what way shape or form? Priit was not the one who made the game, get that straight. And your argument defeats itself when you say: "You can post about his company all day. What makes the success is a combination of players." And guess what makes a success as well? A company, a combination of people. So your statement defeats itself. And, just because a person "follows" a teammate does not make him a follower. They are a team. They work together.  "Well seems like anything Priit worked with was a failure" Really? Did you even see the post I made? "Priit being a success or failure was never the argument."Then why are you defending the accusation in the very same post?:"You can post about his company all day. But these hardly mean anything about an individual. "  "First of all his company is founded by Jaan, and various other founders. He has always followed Jaans lead. And has been more of a follower. Saying I am the best because my squad is the best is similar to the retarded logic you are using here. You are not good because your squad is undefeatable. You individually can suck. What makes the success is a combination of players. What was the point in fingering that little part out? Trying to get a jab in at priit? You're not even arguing anything, you're just stating random things. Also, to defend priit in your joust on jaan - if you worked along side someone your whole career, why would you split up if everything made sense? Priit makes money with Jaan. Jaan, Priit and others have a history together as a team, and they continue to make money. What exactly is your argument? It makes perfect sense. What they're doing is called being smart and productive. Edited December 29, 2011 by Xog Quote
»Xog Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) "Well seems like anything Priit worked with was a failure. What other projects besides subspace and Kazaa are credited to him? " 4 posts later "And I don't care what Priitk owns. This has nothing to do with everything he touches failing. Skype was failing, thats why he sold it. " OK - I originally ended this post right there. But I'd also like to point out how much of an idiot you are. If you made a revolutionary program, and was offered a contract for $X Million, and CONTINUE to be paid to develop for it, would you "sell" it too? Avast, you have absolutely no idea how the business world works. If no company ever came around to Priit (I believe it was initially MSN), Skype would be nowhere right now. What would be the point in even developing it then? You don't know what goes through Priit's developmental process. He probably planned the whole thing - Make a great thing, then make money from it. I mean, it's not too hard to understand. Or would you rather try to market it by yourself with a huge chance of just blowing your money into the wind? Edited December 29, 2011 by Xog Quote
Avast Posted December 29, 2011 Author Report Posted December 29, 2011 If he would have blown his money into the wind trying to market Skype himself, then we can see by that statement how much of a success Priit really is. I think if his product was really good and revelotionary it would have spoken for itself. But instead he sold it in order to take the product further, because it was the only way he could make money off of it. Quote
