PoLiX Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Why Donations? About 2 yrs ago I moved the sites off of Testtube's hosting and onto our own server. At the time things were very financially stable for me. I was making almost 2x what I needed to live, and when I received a nice bonus I decided to set it aside for Continuum projects. My wife and me were going to be married, and figured when finances meshed she would complain about my expenses for this game. That sum of money I figured would last 3 years, and I didn't forsee the game at the time making it much past that. If it did, I'd just figure it out. Well, that didn't take into account the person I was splitting the cost of the first server with not paying their half (not bitter about it or anything) nor did it take into account me having a daughter and the wife not working. Financially I could probably do it fine, but It'll be really hard for me to self justify spending the money it costs to keep these scripts licensed and the server running. Of course I will choose family over keeping up a few websites for the small community that is left. What's the costs? VPS Hosting - $26 / monthSubSpace.co Domain - $30 / year (could score a 30% off coupon probably | Apr 2012)IPB Tech Support License - $30 / year (Feb 2012)IP.Content - $15 / 6 months (Apr 2012)IP.Downloads - $10 / 6 months (Jan 2012) Total Cost 1 year: $422 If we'd like to add the Tutorials script to create a better FAQ section than what is in Technical Support, would be another $40. Why Donate? Honestly, I dunno. If you enjoy the community, want to see it keep running, or maybe just need a spot for some web hosting (yourname.subspace.co or your own domain - got lots to spare). I know many out there would rather see this place die than help it, so I am not going to push for anything. If anyone trustworthy and with the knowledge wanted to step up and take the reigns, I have no objection to that. I have honestly been waiting for years for someone eager to, but so rarely once they are given access do they do much of anything. Again I am not forcing anyone to donate, but I will just hook up all the billing to my paypal account and it will run as long as it can from there. This will just be a tough year for me financially, after that I should be able to pick things back up, but can't make any guarantees. To anyone who wishes to donate, Thanks for the support. If you'd like hosting, please let me know. »LtNirvana Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 I'll donate on Tuesday when I get my unemployment check. In the meantime, can I get a new subforum for DS? Quote

Samapico Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Transfered some to my Paypal account... should be able to donate it in a week or so Quote
Vidiot_X Posted December 5, 2011 Report Posted December 5, 2011 I'll put in $10.00 (US) the beginning of next month and then again the next month after that. Things are tight here too. Quote
PoLiX Posted December 6, 2011 Author Report Posted December 6, 2011 Yeah, I honestly really really hate asking for donations. Can only recall 1 other time in the past 10yrs or so I have asked for any, and that was only for a small sum. I just would rather ask, cover what I can from it. Quote
No_Remorse Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 is there any way to donate besides paypal? Quote
PoLiX Posted December 9, 2011 Author Report Posted December 9, 2011 What other option you have in mind? Also, donations list updated. Quote
PoLiX Posted December 9, 2011 Author Report Posted December 9, 2011 Have had an offer to cover all the costs, and have had an offer on hosting on another server. Weighing options atm. Trying to work on the site a bit more also, mostly on the back end. Been really busy and neglecting it for a few months, but finally got some of the updates/scripts I was waiting for from IPB. Sometimes wish they wouldn't give us heads up on nice new features, it just makes me make big plans that wait on them, lol. Would be helpful if anyone wanted to start turning the FAQ questions and answers from the tech support section into Tutorials under the Continuum Client section. Might help give it a kickstart. Fighting a stomach bug atm, so only on the computer a short time to check e-mails and messages. Thanks to everyone for the support so far. Reminds me that this site/game still means something to some people. Quote
PoLiX Posted December 11, 2011 Author Report Posted December 11, 2011 Thread Cleaned Up. Put up a tutorial as a test. Seems template needs a couple tweaks. Quote
PoLiX Posted December 11, 2011 Author Report Posted December 11, 2011 Donations Updated. Thanks SD Quote
spidernl Posted December 11, 2011 Report Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) If I weren't practically all of my money on university, I'd donate. I might if I manage to get some coding done for TurboSlug22, as he pays through paypal. It wouldn't be too much of a problem to move some of that to your paypal account. But for now, I can't really help out financially. Hope others will help you, though. This game would be a big step closer to dying the day this forum goes down. »Lynx Posted December 11, 2011 Report Posted December 11, 2011 I'll drop you some cash after Christmas ~ pockets are a little shallow right now. ;-) Quote
Avast Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 I would donate 10$ but i don't want you to know my name. Is paypal anonymous? Quote
PoLiX Posted December 12, 2011 Author Report Posted December 12, 2011 No. Might be able to be, but don't think so. I already know your first name and where you live anyways. Don't care really. Continuum grabs more about you than you'd care to know, trust me. But that is another topic. Decided to keep current server though. As I was reminded, just too much bad luck in the past with not hosting ourselves. I'll drop you some cash after Christmas ~ pockets are a little shallow right now. ;-) Sa'll good. We've all got commitments, IE: why I am asking for any help. Quote
PoLiX Posted December 12, 2011 Author Report Posted December 12, 2011 Noone has asked, but thought I'd say. I am going to pay this and next month's server bills regardless. Should end up with ~50 left of my money in paypal. Not going to list it in the donations, as I don't think of it as a donation. Anything donated over the total needed will just be used until it is used up. Hopefully by then I'll be good again, or atleast figure out what the next move is. Quote

2pacZ Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 already donated last time then got ban't, anyway we can advertise ads and get cash outa that? Quote
Avast Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) first name is easy because i use e-mails all over with it, and tell people in continuum, last name is what id rather you not have. Address is probably not specific, since i doubt you or continuum is technically skilled enough to trace an IP within 2 feet. It is probably area specific of 100 miles however. And of course its obvious you guys collect data, thats why i expect not to be netbanned when i suggest tracerting a mod or admin. Fair is fair. And tracert is a joke anyway. If you have a problem with me, you brought it on yourselves, and i won't easily let you forget. Of course i have given my real address to players in continuum too, in public. I am not afraid of people, however i would rather not be disturbed. In the past people sent letters to my home from other games, saying they would sue me etc. Get a life. »Nude For Satan Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 Sent 14c Australian. Should work out at about $10 USD. Quote
CommanderHB2 Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I'm going to try and load up my paypal account with any spare money I earn this Christmas. If I can manage that, I'll gladly donate as much as I can. You've done a great job- I'd hate to see it go. Quote
»Swift Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 I'll send you some money when I get my housing issue finalized this month. Audrey is moving here on the 30th. Quote
PoLiX Posted December 18, 2011 Author Report Posted December 18, 2011 no rush, covered for a couple months right now anyways. Quote
