(SubSpace Download Repository)
\-------------------/\-------------------/

This tool is designed to circumvent issues with the Continuum Downloading process, Which is designed at max 6MB files for 28.8kbps modems, with unlimited speed (through connection speed limits) and to download outside of the client, promoting more play-time and less wait time.

The tool also enables developers to make larger modifications to arenas without the worry of limitations of size. Raw files can also be transferred to promote zone-wide modifications via %#'s (sound files) among other potential media asset modifications.

To put it shortly: Convenient as hell.

Play with it if you'd like to, but right now not many people are hooked up with the repo server atm. I have the zone exceptions list pointing Trench Wars towards my computer so downloading works there for now until others get setup for this.

Okay guys!

I have the server mostly working for the conversation with the client, and the client the same thing.

The only thing i have to do now is interface touchups and works, and transfering the file in chunks and the whole system should be in working order.

The servers will sit on port 39949 btw... (TCP protocol)

It can work.

Also, aside from my laziness to quote others I reply to,

I noticed something. Ever hear about the thing that if you put raw files inside a zone folder, the files work throughout the zone? (I mean of the core files ofcourse, sound or wav).

So if i put 1000 bong noises from 1000 to 2000 (Hypathetically) it would work with this system very well. Continuum only supports 15 lvz file slots in each arena, which kindof degrades the idea of doing the above task, because i've tried to add about 50 or so in a sfxpack i had to spread out and eventually just used a fraction of.

yes, and its very annoying

because newbs dont know how to remove them, and if you download once, it ruins the whole zone forever until theyre removed client side

Well a cleansing option / remove non level files option would be neat. would also be good to flag from the server wether or not to cleanse a list of files too...

Yeah that is a obvious limit of the client, and there is no way getting around that for continuum, but you have 15 lvz slots to use right? or does the objects spread entirely in one map?

Okay guys,

Almost done. I added file security to block out anything other than what continuum supports in lvz files, lvz and lvl files.

The Client interface is almost done, I just need to finish up the personal options (like excluding zones from checking, that kind of thing) and tidying up.

I will release this with the minimal server that only has a text window to show what is going on, or with a -gui parameter to turn off gui for people who use command prompts etc...

(that means to run in the background as a service)

in fact you could probably rig it to check once an hour/day/week in the background and auto-sync your continuum folder to every zone on a list

hmmm Cheese, I was just planning on having the program allow a hour up to a week's check..

Also, I kindof get what JoWie said about background, but threads are not a background running thing?

Basically, deamonize on linux means that when you run the application from the console it gives you back control after any initialization (detach). This way you can easily add it to initialization scripts (such as init.d) which are always detached.

Most applications that can deamonize also let you write PID files, but this is not required (this can be provided by a wrapper).

This is what you usually use in initialization scripts. Read the note next to --background

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/intrepid/man8/start-stop-daemon.8.html

Incase your server is written in java, I think there is a tool for it, not sure.

You could do it that way if you wanted to(check pub only) because the repository is seperate from the server in that of folder seperation.

Did some fixes and added a installer including continuum for convenience.

I'll add Server files with information as soon as things get debugged entirely.
