Jericho24. Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 When playing continuum, my computer will turn off without warning. When turning back on, screen stays black but I hear " SYSTEM FAILED CPU TEST" or at least thats what i think i hear... This only seems to happen when playing. Sitting in spec either windowed or in-game and sitting in the safe zone seem to be fine. This only happens with continuum, everything else is fine... Quote
Fluffy White Bunny Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 Update your graphics and sound drivers, and make sure your direct X is at least at version 8.1. Quote
Jericho24. Posted January 23, 2004 Author Report Posted January 23, 2004 All the drivers are upto date, its a newly built computer. DirectX version 9.0b Quote
Bargeld Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 Sounds weird, but check near/on the power supply (on the back of the case) for a switch that says 115 and 230. Make sure it's on 115. Quote
Dav Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 in the uk the mains votage is 230, and thayt would affect the system in genral. try a complete reinstall of continuum. Quote
SVS Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 Mmm, for me if I update my GFX drivers to the latest version Ctm goes from having 800 fps to 3 fps. So I just use the old ones... . Quote
Jericho24. Posted January 23, 2004 Author Report Posted January 23, 2004 I have already tried all the obvious stuff.. Old / new drivers, tested hardware in other machines, uninstalled/reinstalled continuum, different versions of continuum, various display settings... Quote
Bargeld Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 Sound card and network card share IRQ's? Quote
Jericho24. Posted January 23, 2004 Author Report Posted January 23, 2004 Sound card and network card share IRQ's?Both are built into my motherboard, Asus A7V8X. Quote
Fluffy White Bunny Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 Maybe your CPU is over heating. Continuum uses 100% of the CPU while in full screen mode. Are you able to play other games that would use 100% of the CPU for long periods of time? Quote
Jericho24. Posted January 24, 2004 Author Report Posted January 24, 2004 I can play other games fine, GTA vice, gta3, call of duty, need for speed undergroud, fifa2004... all work fine Quote

Fluffy White Bunny Posted January 25, 2004 Report Posted January 25, 2004 Type "SYSTEM FAILED CPU TEST" (with the quotes) into google. There seems to be a lot of stuff there, I guess your best bet is to sift through it all. Quote

madhaha Posted January 25, 2004 Report Posted January 25, 2004 Ignore DM... Apparently LOTS of people have been having trouble with the same error message. All of them use ASUS boards but the solutions appear to vary depending on the other components in the system or luck. I suggest voodoo. Quote
