Vidiot_X Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhObNL5dkW4 Hi, This a video of the new map I've been working on. It also shows the new background type I am working on. Recorded in 800 x 600 windowed mode. - Rich - Quote
»gallitin Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 Looking good. Made me dizzy. Quote
Vidiot_X Posted September 19, 2011 Author Report Posted September 19, 2011 Thanks, I like the rotation mode:) But, as you can see in the second half of the video standard non-rotation mode is there too. - Rich - Quote
Resol Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Right on man! I really want to see the video where there are other people flying around and blowing up! Also, as I said before, I really disliked the screen rotation after thinking I would like it. It this video the rotation seems slower, and makes it seem a lot better than when I played in your demo client. Keep up the good work! Really looking good, and the new static background is really cool. Also something I would like to see: Auto camera zoom options... Meaning, auto zoom out when speeding up, and auto zoom in when slowing down. This should be another feature you can enable / disable. Quote
Avast Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 looks epic, it's about time to switch clients, and drop this priitk, who dropped us 10 years ago. Quote
Vidiot_X Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 @Resol "Right on man! I really want to see the video where there are other people flying around and blowing up!"So do I. But, It will be a bit before that happens. After the next release I'll start to code networking and then we can start to get some game play in. An auto zoom feature/option seems like a cool Idea. I was also thinking of adding a zoom-toggle option were you could preset 2-3 levels of zoom and hit a key to toggle through them. I would also add that screen rotation is an option and that the standard non-screen rotation is the default. I'm looking at an option to rotate the map and not the background. But I'm not sure I like it that way. On the other hand I like screen rotation so I will probably include it in the next release to get everyone's opinion. @All Phoenix SS is at about 8000+ lines of code right now and should end up at 12k-15k when finished. The version numbers for the client and editor indicate how far along I feel things are. So Alpha version .5 is about half way to beta. The distinction between Alpha and Beta is that Beta includes all of the frameworks, documentation and media to play the game, essentially the game is near completion and testing is done to find bugs or make small improvements. Alpha (where we are at now) means the game is still being defined and in flux. The next version will be Alpha .5 for both the map editor and the client. Thanks,- Rich - Quote
Resol Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 The idea came from the first GTA, in the newer versions I noticed they only auto zoom the map, which would also be a very neat option. @ Avast resoL> ?find priitkNot online, last seen 7 days ago Quote
Avast Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) rofl really, and I missed the opportunity to troll him. Damn. Wasn't he supposed to release an update for continuum, at least five years ago. And it never happened yet. Richard I am not sure if you are just going to mimic Subspace, or add new features? Not just common sense features that subspace should have had. But for example I was wondering if your client could have it so that when you destroy a ship near you, it's explosion will actually damage you if you are inside it, or very close. Proximity to ship explosion. Maybe shrapnel. Not sure if it can be done, or is even worth doing. I was also hoping for one way walls. Walls which allow you to fly through them left to right, or right to left. But once through, when you try to fly through the opposite direction, it is a solid wall and you can't pass. If your client can make these possible, then it is much more advanced than subspace/continuum currently. Edited September 22, 2011 by Avast Quote

dezmond Posted September 23, 2011 Report Posted September 23, 2011 (edited) One of our upperstaffers talked to him, he said he was fixing the server after hopeone emailed him about how slow it was and the lag it was causing to TW. Apparently he done some network wide server fix. And I can't wait until I try this out Richard, awesome work! Edited September 23, 2011 by dezmond Quote

Vidiot_X Posted September 24, 2011 Author Report Posted September 24, 2011 priitK - I would love to talk with him about encryption. @AvastPhoenix SS will allow you to have the same game play you have now in SubSpace and a lot more (See the Phoenix SS - Wiki). My overall goals are to make it flexible, scalable and easy to use. So with a combination of scripting and the map editor it will be easy to construct maps with all kinds of map parts with unique properties. I am still working on the scripting aspects now but basically I envision the map editor loading a list of scripts the a user could add/delete as needed. Scripts might do things like "one way walls". Also these are not server scripts but scripts that run within Phoenix's framework allowing access to things like collision or the map engine. I am working on scripting now and I'll let everyone know more when I have something solid. - Rich - Quote
JoWie Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 The random seeding continuum does, is a lot more interesting than encryption imo. Quote
