dezmond Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 (edited) TW Web-Based Chat Client TW Chat Ever wanted to speak to your friends when being bored at work? Now you can !! For many months there has been a secret project going. This project would revolutionize Trench Wars as we know it. For many years it's been impossible to allow a 3rd party chat client connect to a SubGame zone like Trench Wars. Only cracking the Continuum encryption could do it, even then only one app could do it. Now, we have a Trench Wars App loaded on the TW Website that will allow you to connect to the zone SSCU Trench Wars through your FireFox or Chrome browser (IE not supported yet). There are we few things you must know before you use this. 1) Have Java installed on your computer.2) Have Chrome or Firefox web browser.3) You MUST !signup to the bot TWChat in the Trench Wars Zone first.4) URL: http://www.trenchwars.org/betachat/5) Use your Continuum username/password If there are any bugs you see or features you would like to see, please reply to the post with them. Any abuse of this system including abusement of bugs etc, will not be taking lightly by the developer or players. Consider this a warning before you will be faced with severe consequences in game. P.S: Because it uses a Java applet, you won't be able to use it on your mobile phone. Special Thanks to Dezmond for helping me. Have fun! -Arobas+ You can follow the thread here: http://forums.trench...sed-Chat-Client P.S.: The image never worked (screenshot) Edited August 1, 2011 by dezmond Quote
»Lynx Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Hi Dezmond, can you ask if they've cracked the encryption themselves, or if they're using Snrrrubs oracular expander... or if they're using some other method. Cheers Quote
dezmond Posted August 1, 2011 Author Report Posted August 1, 2011 lol, we are not cracking the encryption or anything like that. We found another method =) Quote
Samapico Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 That's the question... What's the method? Quote
»Lynx Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 lol, we are not cracking the encryption or anything like that. We found another method =) Ah, I was hoping you were using Snrrrubs oracle. I intend on using it but I've had plenty of bad experiences relying on other peoples work - especially when their work goes down or changes without notice (not saying Snrrrub is unreliable; it's just something that can happen). What's the other method, then? Quote
PoLiX Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 odds are registering on the bot adds you the the VIP.txt Or they are allowing SubSpace protocol to connect. More likely the first. Quote
»Blocks Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Or they've hacked Subgame and authenticate users separately. Quote
Corey Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 So what is this? like a chatnut for trenchwars? lol They should have talked to Brain 'months' ago. Would have saved them some time. Quote
dezmond Posted August 3, 2011 Author Report Posted August 3, 2011 Um, ChatNut only connects to ASSS zones, which isn't the same in staying in our home zone. So no, using ChatNut wouldn't of saved us any time. Quote
»Lynx Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 So yeah, how's it work, Dez? Care to help Subspace out? Quote
spidernl Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) Can subgame do 'fake players' in any way? Like with bots? Can you have bots mess with packages? If so I could see the system creating a 'fake player' for connected users and then 'intercepting' packages sent to those fake players.Doing that, you could have the bot then 'translate' the packages and send them to the user connected with the applet. But all of this assumes that subgame can somehow emulate ASSS functionality. Edited August 3, 2011 by spidernl Quote
»Xog Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 i dont understand why youre witholding information from us, dez. this could be good information that someone could use to further development or make something better for the community. Quote
spidernl Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 Ah, I was hoping you were using Snrrrubs oracle. I intend on using it but I've had plenty of bad experiences relying on other peoples work - especially when their work goes down or changes without notice (not saying Snrrrub is unreliable; it's just something that can happen). I don't think Snrrrubs oracle is actually up. That or I'm just bad at using it. I've tried messing around with it (for fun, not to cheat, mind you - yes, I actually think watching decrypted packages fly back and forth through a program console is fun) for a while now and I never actually got something back. »Lynx Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 (edited) Just tested in in Python and sharvil.nanavati:6000 responds but I am not sure if it's responding anything significant. I'd have to get some keys to check. Edited September 3, 2011 by Lynx Quote
spidernl Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 (edited) Try: 00 80 B5 8C 21 0B FF 56 7E EA 01 00 I've sent it that, but unlike my sends to zones, I don't seem to get anything back.Note that it could just be my java UDP socket skills (or lack thereof), because I still don't understand why the rest of the code I wrote with them even works. Edit:You're sure it works? I can't ping or 'telnet' sharvil.nanavati.net @ port 6000 at all. Edit 2: Nor can someone else I asked. Edit 3:Disclaimer: I realize that these keys won't exactly work for every session Edited September 3, 2011 by spidernl Quote
»Lynx Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 Apologies, you were correct. I looked a little deeper into how Python was handling the socket connection and the replies I got were just error messages. Quote
spidernl Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 Oh well. Least that's a legitimate reason for TWChat not to use it.Too bad though, it'd be useful for projects like this one, but without the risks and limitations. Quote
PoLiX Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 anyone tried starlight lately? Would tell if it is offline, or just only allowing Starlight to access it. Quote
Dr Brain Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 I don't think Starlight uses his oracle. They're probably based on the same code, though. Quote

But all of this assumes that subgame can somehow emulate ASSS functionality. No, the bots of subgame are just simple clients (just like Continuum). They can't mess with the server, as no normal client can either. A bot would be able to mess with packages but it won't ever be able to "create" another player in the zone with the same bot handling it's packets. I'm not sure if I can reveal this information but how TWChat works is just the same as you would allow any other bot connect to a zone. ;-)Polix's guess was correct on the first page I don't think Snrrrub's service is up either - his directory server has been down for quite a while already.
