SS minimizes to chat window

i'm running ss on windows 7. it seems that from time to time when i tab to the chat window and then try to tab back in game, it will instantly minimize back to the chat window. this seems to happen when i've opened dcme or google+, and some other random applications. i've got no clue what's causing it really or how to fix it. any suggestions?

I use the chat window in windowed mode as well, and I sometimes have to click in the game's window twice to set the focus correctly after... I guess it might be the same issue.

I have had all these issues. Always forget how I fixed them.

 

I had the alt tab problem. Where it wouldn't re-enter game from chat window. It would just fake a game enter then, re-chat window me, instead.

I had the alt tab problem where it would alt tab but disconnect me from server due to a large packet spike that happens during the alt tab.

I have had the problem where when I alt tab into out of subspace with full screen, it would take literally 1 minute to get out of the black screen and display the game again. (this one was annoying because I'm impatient, so I literally just played subspace in window mode, unless I had a league game) This way in windowed mode I could fool around and never needed to alt tab. And when I was playing league, alt-tabbing is not necessary so I wouldn't have to wait a minute, since I am not doing it. So full screen was fine for league.

I have had the problem, where if you take a screenshot, the screenshot is black.

I have had the problem where if you take a screenshot, the game actually disconnects. (This one left me not taking screenshots for a few months)

 

Trust me I had it all.

 

I suggest updating your graphics drivers. Even reinstalling them even if there is no new update, since there might be some corruption or something needs to be reset. So the game will readily accept the graphic driver, is my speculation. This is more a Windows 7 issue, than it is a Subspace issue. So do everything to maintain your windows 7. Update it, de-fragment, clean it with ccleaner, and so on.

 

I think there might be some relation to the browser. Though I am not sure what. Do you use firefox?

 

Make sure it's running good, does flash ever crash? I have had my firefox crash flash before. Usually if I am buffering a lot of videos online, with maybe 5-10 windows opened, and something lags or hangs, then all the videos crash. Youtube also, and they just become a grey screen with the flash icon in the middle stating flash crashed. So flash and java, make sure they are running good. If these ever crash it's indicative of a problem among Windows 7, maybe the graphics card or driver.

 

What graphic card do you have?

 

Also is your client running off the main hard drive, or do you run it off an external hard drive like I do?

 

Polix in my opinion, you should write this beautiful list of rare deadly subspace issues I just compiled in this post. Because they are so fucking frequent, and everyone who does fix them never writes what they did, and eventually forgets, and new people end up having the issues and keep asking for help from people who already forgot what they did. We need to eventually track down the solutions and the causes, and have this list available with answers. I am sick and tired of these same problems coming up, and people pretty much in desperation for a lack of anything to do to fix them.

Try disabling Windows Aero Theme. I assume you already have SS set for administrator and compatibility to XP3.

"Drivers updated" Means you updated the drivers?

Or they already are updated? If it's the latter, Reinstall them even if they are at the latest update.

 

Did you try running SS with Windows 7 Aero theme disabled?
