Help! Please!

I've been trying to fix my computer for SEVERAL MONTHS now. I eventually decided to take it to COMPUSTAR of all places, and even they cannot fix it.

 

The problem: NO video goes to monitor when my video card is plugged into my computer. I can't even see the BIOS POST messages!

 

The weirds: The video card works in another computer. Other video cards work on my computer.

 

The attempted solution: Tried the above, and tried a more powerful power supply. I also swapped the memory. I also completely disconnected the hard drive.

 

What will be attempted tomorrow, but I doubt - updating the BIOS for my motherboard.

 

When this happened: shortly after installing windows 7 64-bit Ultimate edition (like 2 days). Could this have f'd with my BIOS through updates? The video card WAS working fine in Windows XP. But now I can't even see BIOS messages (but the computer and all its components are active).

 

Video card: Geforce 9800 GTX/GTX+

Motherboard: ASUS P5N-D

 

The video card from another computer that works on mine: Geforce 7600

You don't get any POST beeps? Do you have an internal speaker that could play them? That could give you a clue to what's the issue. The other video cards you tried in your computer, do they use the same amount of memory? Could be some memory sharing crap... I dunno. But updating the BIOS could fix an incompatibility issue.

speaker's connected fine. no beeps with everything in. if itake memory out, beeps, so it's working. i have no clue!

 

i've found several other people with this issue and no solutions :\

RMA your board, or buy a replacement. Then come back with results.

 

Or buy a POST Diagnostics Card (I will let you Google it). Probably slightly cheaper, but may help you pinpoint where your motherboard is taking a deuce. The problem won't be in your RAM, PSU, HDD, or video card.

 

But DO ensure that your computer is getting clean power, which I am sure it is.

 

Chances are, you'll have to replace your board one way or another anyway, so you might as well skip the POST card and go for the balls.

Welp, I updated the BIOS and it didn't fix it. So I just wound up buying a new video card. I discovered $175 in American Express Gift Cards in my room, and bought a GeForce GTX 550Ti for $173 (hella expensive, but he said he'd waiver the $ for workhours they spent trying to fix my computer, and install everything for free... figured y not, not like it was coming out of my pocket). Everything's working fine except my network adapter. I think I need to buy a new one because it might not work with 64-bit windows. When I first installed windows 7 64-bit I was using a USB wireless adapter. But in the process of moving, I think it was thrown out. Oops!

 

So, if anyone wants to buy a perfectly fine GeForce 9800 GTX/GTX+ video card for $50 (was $300, and it's still a VERY GOOD CARD even in today's standards), I do accept PayPal. (The video card works fine, just not with my motherboard apparently). My mobo is an ASUS P5N-D

Strange problem.

 

Have you tried the 9800 since putting in the new one? Doesn't make sense that it worked at one point in time, stopped working for no reason, works in another computer, but doesn't work in yours. I know it doesn't matter now, but you should always try to reset the CMOS when you're not getting POST.
