  1. 1. Should we continue calling ourselves SubSpace? or finally after 10yrs embrace our Continuum name?

What about Subspace Continuum? Sounds cooler.

That's probably the best solution.

SubSpace Continuum doesn't roll either. It doesn't look good, it doesn't sound good, it doesn't roll.

'SubSpace/Continuum' is even better than 'SubSpace Continuum'

The game is SubSpace, and the client is Continuum. When you are talking to a new person, what are you telling them about? The game? Or the client?

On the moving 'forward part' i have been messaging major youtubers and commenting on their videos about subspace/continuun. Hopefully one of them might say something about it in one of their videos or even have a video of them playing it.

As above, you neglected to add Subspace Continuum which is what I'd vote for.

It's no longer subspace and never really was Continuum.

Actually, it was always kinda thought/wondered, and recently major connections were made... Priit may have had access to the source at a point in his development.

But that is a WHOLE different topic.

thats too long

It's not too long. Two words typically make a title in most games.

You're being too literate. Be aware that newbs won't really care which came first - they just want to know what they're playing. We generally want a name that everyone knows, creates no confusion, and shows Continuum as the successor to Subspace.

You'd know, being the destroyer of an entire zone. :p

Or what god created, became gods of their own, and destroyed him.

Happens a lot, the student becomes the master, the hunter becomes the hunted, the son outlives the father.

Do you ever say anything constructive?

Personally I think consistency is the most important factor.

For a newbie telling them that "you are playing subspace with continuum connecting to an ASSS/Subgame server" is confusing.

All a newbie sees when they download is an application called continuum and so as far as they know/care they are playing continuum.

The above is why my vote sits solidly in continuum. A history lesson for those that care is good, and I know people are nostalgic about subspace, but thats not an argument against keeping it simple and accessable.

  • A player is going to download and install it no matter what it's called.
  • A player is going to enter a zone and play (usually Trench), no matter what it's called.
  • That player will stick around if they like the game, and leave if they don't, no matter what it's called.
  • Only then, once the player has decided to stay, will there be any confusion about the name. At that point, we've already won, and it doesn't matter what it's called.

Sense a theme here? I do: It doesn't matter what it's called.

I disagree entirely a name is very important. You only have to look at the money spent on branding by large corporations. Tbe amount of money spent repeating the name over and over and over to you. Every new product name you see advertised has been thought though very carefully by the marketing guys, down to the design of the fonts and text of that brand. Its all designed to sell you an idea, that you are buying into. I challenge you to name me a successful product with a name that is not distinctive and descriptive.

For example there are really only 3 companies that make washing powder... "procter and gamble" and "unilever" and a 3d one can't rememeber

They advertise what is essentially the same product under many different brand names.

I suggest we keep both the "Continuum" AND "Subspace" brands

- Subspace is the brand for the older experiernced player who "knows" this is the "real" game

- Continuum for the young and smart player who knows better than the lazy vets

I would argue we need to think of a better name than subspace or continuum and add it to our list of brands :D
