PoLiX Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 http://ps3.ign.com/articles/115/1155622p1.html On March 11, 2011, Japan was hit with its worst natural disaster in history – a massive 8.9 scale earthquake. It caused a tsunami that decimated towns and villages along the coast of Japan that left thousands dead and reported missing, and over 500,000 people homeless. In an effort to lend our support to the people of Japan who have been hit hard by the recent earthquake and tsunami, IGN is running a benefit to raise money for the country that has given gamers so much over the years. Over the 24 hour period, staff at IGN will be playing 24 classic Japanese games, working their way from 1987 through to 2010. Some of the games featured include Super Mario Bros. 3, Street Fighter II Championship Edition, Final Fantasy VII, Katamari Damacy and Resident Evil 4. Along the way, the team will be posting photos, videos and chatting with you guys through Facebook and Twitter, and we'll have giveaways aplenty for readers around the world. Running from 9am Friday March 18 to 9am Saturday March 19 (AEST) (that's 3pm Thursday - 3pm Friday PST, and 10pm Thursday to 10pm Friday in the UK), we're looking to celebrate the immeasurable contributions Japan has made to the video game industry and popular gaming culture, and we're hoping you guys will give what you can spare - however small - to help the people of Japan get back on their feet. On a side note, got tons of co-workers over there right now on 2 naval bases (uncle just got back 3 weeks ago) and they've been sending us video links, e-mails, updates, etc. Might share some of it later.
