Senior members of Staff will recallthat back in September of last year, I took time off from the zone to help my wife who was ill at the time.Unfortunately, whilst an initial prognosis was positive, this is no longer the case. This community, and make nomistake about it this is a community, has a tendency to engage in cannibalistic activity. There is a brightglow of positivity that at times is outshone by fiery ball of negativity. Never lose sight that everyone wantsto achieve the same goal though the route may be different. Come what may in my personal life, and over the course of time, I would be disappointed (and shocked) not tofind the same vibrant community that I now leave behind. Finally, for those of you located in the UK take a moment to think about making a donation to Cancer ResearchUK (http://www.cancerresearchuk.org). It is a brilliant organisation that gives far more than it receives. I wish you all well in your future endeavours. Thank you and goodbye. Cheers, -Hoch Edited March 1, 2011 by Tembest Quote
Cheese Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 looks like dsb dodged a bulletlet the development begin! Quote
SeVeR Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) does liito play any dsb either? -edit- part of me wants to donate, but the other part of me is too repelled by Hoch to do anything he asks me to do. Edited March 2, 2011 by SeVeR Quote
Avast Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) Yeah well that's the same concern I had sever Liito goes inactive for weeks and or months at a time, and it's been this way for a few years on Liitos end. So Although he was last seen a few hours ago, I can't help but wonder if he will just disappear after things settle down. And the same problems we had with Hoch would just happen again. The plus side might be that Liito is more open minded, willing to work with others and nicer and so on. But that is just opinion of other players. We don't know for sure unless he is actually around, and playing the game. Which never actually happened for awhile. However I was unbanned, I don't know if I owe that to Hoch or Liito, or just to chalk it up to the fact that I shouldn't have been banned for 12 years in the first place. More than this, Hoch can always come back and reclaim the zone from Liito, which is probably what he had planned, and the whole reason he Gave ownership to Liito. Which means nothing really changed. And Hoch probably still has the top level access, and full ownership anyway? And still has Net Op? even though now hes not leading the zone, or capable of being active. Anyway I hope hoch and his wife can overcome the obstacles before them, and that they don't suffer, and hold on to hope and happiness. Edited March 2, 2011 by Avast Quote
Tembest Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 Liito is online quite a bit, eventhough he doesn't have much time to play.He has to upload stuff for people, code, read server log etc.Anyway, liito has always approved of new good ideas, to at least try them. He's also taken part in most of the leagues. You should've seen the massive increase in population DSB had yesterday evening.45 alone in pub0 already. So... let the reincarnation begin. Quote

PoLiX Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Hoch has stepped down as BanG Admin, so doubtful he will return. Quote
Tembest Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 I guess Hoch will keep doing it. To be honest, I don't know. Quote
»gallitin Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 It's SSCU so wouldn't it be on Prittk's server? Quote
L.C. Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 It's SSCU so wouldn't it be on Prittk's server?Nope. Different IP as well, and it was the only SSC zone aside from the entire SSCV network that had connection issues to SSC months ago. Quote
Hakaku Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 I just hope that whoever took up the role as server owner realizes that Hoch is most likely no longer going to pay to keep it running. And I'd hate for everyone to start scrambling around asking what happened to the zone a month later. Quote
Gradius Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Oh no! Big problem in SSCU Death Star Battle!I hope actually nothing happens to it, occasions I do go there and play. Quote
XO-MANOWAR Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Yes its on Argyles server and has been so...no change there. Quote
PoLiX Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 It will be moving. Hoch pays for the current Server, Argyle just admins it. I helped Argyle find a cheaper server in the same datacenter as TW/EG/SSCX and during a huge sale at that. So DSB will now be on the east coast. He's planning to move it once the SSC firewall has the IP whitelisted. So should be no worries about DSB shutting down. Quote
Cheese Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 going to switch to asss during the move? Quote
SeVeR Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 When will the change happen? Was it was on the west coast before? Will this mean less lag for Europeans? Quote
Dr Brain Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 He's planning to move it once the SSC firewall has the IP whitelisted. Redirect from the old server until that time. Quote
»Lynx Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Was it was on the west coast before? Will this mean less lag for Europeans? DSB is currently located in Dallas, TX which is central. Moving to the East Coast will significantly improve lag for Europeans. Quote
PoLiX Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 happen to have a proxy that will run on linux brain? (just another situation) Quote
Dr Brain Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Google says it can be done with iptables, which is installed on most Linux distributions. EDIT: you know that the old server has to run the redirect program, right? Quote
PoLiX Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 The server you're posting on right now has access to the SSC biller. Only reason I ask about nix. Quote
Entr0py Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Hey folks, I finally registered here, since I felt as Head DSB Sysop I should have more of a community-wide presence. That is very good news that the DSB server is moving. For a long time and especially over the last few months, most Europeans have had much difficulty with lag. Lately many people can't even log into the zone, due to some mysterious routing issues. So, this is a very welcome change. Thanks PoLiX and Argyle for arranging that. Anyways, I think a change of scenery for DSB has been long needed. Our community is still very fragile especially after the events of the last year, but our staff is dedicated to making it a fun place, and I know that I personally am working with the dev team to bring in more theme weekends, and with the league staff to bring in more and better leagues. The next few months should be a pretty exciting time for DSB - not much has changed there over the past few years but now that will hopefully change. Quote
