MAD_MAX_ Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 Hi, I just started playing subspace yesterday and have found it more fun than most other MMo'S that I have played. Anyway, I hear some folks talking about upgrading their ships. How exactly can you do this and in what zones? Thanks. Quote
Corey Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) Try HyperSpace, it should be on your zone list, its the zone I play in. I find it the most fun. And yeah, its the zone you can upgrade in. Edited February 25, 2011 by Corey Quote
»SD>Big Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 mad_max, when entering a zone, press F1 to scroll through the help windows (most zones have customized the help windows with specific info) as well, in-game you can use the ?help command to ask a question. ex: ?help hwo2 shoot it will send the question to all online staff, someone will help you out. it's a pretty good community. enjoy! MAD_MAX_ Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 Thanks for the quick replies. Another question. In the Trench Wars zone, how do people get all the bombs and mines and other such things. I tried the?buy thing, but nothing shows up. Quote
L.C. Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 Tab = shoots bombShift+Tab = lays mine Quote
PlayWolf Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 Ya, basics is tab= bomb ctrl= Guns You'll get pretty used to it after a bit of playing. Then you'll learn how to map your own keys ;D Quote
»Purge Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 Usually all zones have different ship settings for each ship. You can switch into different ships by hitting Esc + a number from 1-8 to switch into one of the 8 available ships. In TW, certain ships have bombs and guns, so try switching between ships to find the one you like. And, as everyone pointed out here, the F1 menu will be your best guide if you just skim through it. MAD_MAX_ Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 Well thanks for the help! I have tried all the ships and I like the Leviathan alot, its just too dang slow.Any tips for flying it would be great. Thanks! Quote
Samapico Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 You'd be better asking for flying tips to other players in the zone that you are playing. The leviathan is typically a slow ship with powerful bombs in most zones... It's great fun blowing stuff up, but it leaves you quite vulnerable. Quote
MAD_MAX_ Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 I seem to be having a problem surviving for 5 seconds. No matter what ship I got, No matter how many twists and turns I do I still manage to get blown up, ofter by attackers I never even see on the screen. I want to get better but I don't have a chance, being that I pop in a matter of seconds. Then Repeat the same process over and over. Is there like a rookie map that I can get better in? Thanks. Quote
Hakaku Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 I assume you're currently playing in Trench Wars, in which case the settings are very oriented towards one-hit kills, and so you gotta be careful. In most other zones like Chaos, Death Star Battle or Extreme Games, for instance, ships are more hardy, so it takes a little more effort to kill and be killed. Don't be afraid to explore a little. Gradius Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 In Extreme Games bombs are one hit kills :| Quote
MAD_MAX_ Posted February 26, 2011 Author Report Posted February 26, 2011 dear newbie, you will die a lot before you get better. love cheese Thanks for the comforting words. I am almost possibly getting 1/2% better!Anyway thanks for all your unput and such. I think I have most of my questions answered by now. Quote
Gradius Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 Practice makes perfect as they always say. Quote
»Purge Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 People tend to troll kills a lot in TW with warbirds and terriers, so you may want to try that as well. Quote
»Xog Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 (edited) If you're playing in TW, there's 3 fighter ships..Warbird (esc+1)Spider (esc+3)Lancaster (esc+7) Warbirds kill enemies with 1 (blue) bullet, but they use up all their energy for that one shot. Spiders kill enemies in multiple shots (red bullets), and use a minor amount of energy per bullet. Lancasters kill enemies in 2-3 shots (yellow bullets), and use a moderate amount of energy per bullet. You die when your energy reaches zero. There is a visual display of your energy at the top of your screen, and a numerical value on the top right. Each zone has different settings for the ships. For instance, in Extreme Games you can shoot like 50 bullets in a Warbird, but each bullet does less damage than the Warbird's in Trench Wars. -Poster of the Century Edited February 26, 2011 by Xog Quote
MAD_MAX_ Posted February 26, 2011 Author Report Posted February 26, 2011 I have another question. How do all these people cloak? they just pop out out of nowhere and blast me in the Death Star zone. So I am curious on how they do it. I press the cloak button and nothing happens. I've tried it with every ship, but to no avail. Thanks in advance. Quote
Avast Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 (edited) ?buy cloak then push button P.S in deathstarbattle, if you want quick fame, claim to be me, falconeer! Edited February 26, 2011 by Avast Quote
Cheese Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 you can cloak, but your ship will looks the same to you, but cloaked to everyone else Quote
Samapico Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 The "toggle" items (x-radar, antiwarp, stealth, cloak) appear on the right side of your HUD. If your ship has the ability to use these items, they will appear as an icon there. And when you hit the related key, it will light up to show you that it's active. As Cheese said, stealth and cloak will show no difference on your ship, but other players will not see your ship, unless they have x-radar on. Quote
»Nude For Satan Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 I saw your name in Chaos Zone earlier. Welcome to Subspace and all the best for your pewpew experience! Additional hints may include, but are not limited to:- The health of your ship is affected not only by getting hit by stuff, but also by firing your own weapons. If you were blowing up too much in Chaos, its possible you had fired too often, dropped your own energy, and become a "one-shot-kill" for opponents. Remember to try to be conservative with your own weapons use.- You're new. You will not yet be adept at dodging. You WILL die a lot in the early stages. When I started playing I would die over and over for the first twelve years.- If cloakers are killing you, use the X-Radar option (in most zones) to spot these sneaky bludgers. X-Radar is normally mapped to your End key. X-Radar DOES, though, require energy (you'll work it out), so don't run it all the time. As you get to learnt the ropes you'll get used to toggling it on and off to finds that happy medium.- If you notice anyone in a zone is sounding friendly, jovial and not too abusive (there's one or two), it might be worth hitting them up for some handy hints during play. You'll learn more from flying with a helpful regular than you will from reading some how-to literature or relying on messageboard Q&A (though this forum can be a good resource, definitely). Hope this is of a little assistance. If I see you in Chaos Zone again I'll be sure to immediately lame you for free points. Which is a lie, 'cause you're probably already better than me. Quote
Cheese Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 you can cloak, but your ship will looks the same to you, but cloaked to everyone else apparently these words were designed to anger you, so swift has decided to raise my warn level without even bothering to contact me. keep up the good work swift!
