League?

Wanted to get some thoughts and ideas about a potential league in the zone. There are some pretty nice positives that could come out of this, the most important being people becoming exposed to Devastation, more so before and after league matches. If we can expose a player base to Devastation during times when more people are there, I think that'd encourage people to come when they normally would not had come and hopefully encourage not only event play, but also pub play.

 

Some ideas for leagues I was toying around with were mainly Base Duel League (BDL), a Hockey League (HL) and a form of Elim League (EL).

 

For BDL, the settings are pretty much set in place, and the rules are pretty set. The main changes that would need to be done though, however, would be the green settings to make sure "randomness" doesnt occur, shared greening becomes nonexistent, and then lag settings would be enforced more stringently for a league. The only thing that might need some serious work would be a newer/updated map with a mix of current/older bases to keep a full map.

 

For HL, the settings just need small fine tuning, the rules are pretty set as well. There arent really any map changes that would need to be done or anything, the map and green settings are perfectly fine, and there shouldnt be anymore randomness in terms of someone taking only some damage and not dying when they hold the ball except for goalies and high energy ships against lvl1 bullets.

 

For EL, the only thing that would really need to be taken care of would be the rules. How teams would be setup, if there are any teams or would this be individual based. The map might be something that needs to be tweaked or possibly even completely redone.

No sir, I don't like it. There were several "leagues", if you can even call them that, tried before. All ending in failure. Why not have a regular flagging league, pub style matches? I already know the answer to this question, because tm_master is acting like baseduel is the main arena. Meanwhile, it is just an event sub-arena.

I agreee i think a flagging league is in our best interest. Not bringing more attention to base duel. All the time is wasted on an arena that takes away from our main.

 

 

Unix, you brought up the point of having new plays come into the zone what do they want to see? THEY want to see mother fuckers playing pub. Flagging. Not base duel, new players want to flag I think. You don't see other zones pub playing base duel 19/20 times. Thats what devastation has turned into. An all base duel all day/night zone. It needs to stop and focus needs to get back to the pub.

I remember when you won events, you would get prized goodies in pub to own players. Now its just 4-5 hours of base duel. Don't waste my time on a league that I won't play. I want to play a league that I will enjoy and there will be competition. Flagging league or even a dueling league but fuck base duel. Take it back to the classics that made this game what it is. Online capture the flag.

Which one would be more feasible then, a flag league based on pub or a base duel league? Would players actually come and play a flag league and if so, would we have enough population to support it?

I think tm has brainwashed enough people to be as opposed to playing a flag league in pub as me and quigy, perhaps others as well, are opposed to playing a base duel league.

I'd like a normal flagging league. While I do enjoy BD, IMO flagging gains more from a league than BD does.

Flagging league would be pretty cool, split the flags I guess with the objective to win. BDL would be easier to go with. Any of the two would be great, although how do we get the players? We need two squads in the zone instead of just Obsidian. If it does get going, maybe we can get a system going where it's acknowledged that we have won. Sort of like TW styled thing where they've got medals next to names and #season won. Just a suggestion.

A league is always an interesting idea, but I'm not too sure that Deva really has a dedicated population for it. NR is right in that previous attempts have been made and failed, but I think we went about it in the wrong way.

 

Rather than having informal "tournaments" or disorganized ball games, it would be best if we had a system like Trench Wars, where players could register themselves and their squads, see their rank positions, challenge others at any point in time with or without missing team members, etc. Maybe even link it up with individual player scores from other events, to give those who can't be up on tm hours the opportunity to make points for their team. (Well, unless it's just a BD league, then we only have to worry about one event)

 

Unfortunately, this requires a massive undertaking to code, test, and debug, and we don't really have anyone who could pull this off. Another issue is that Deva only has one squad: Obsidian. We'd literally have to force team limitations, otherwise there'd be no competition.
