L.C. Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 As of two days ago it was decided that BlueT/SSCV would no longer provide Win32 ASSS gamehosting due to security and reliability concerns. Existing clients (two to be exact) have until February 25, 2011 before service to them is terminated. We will continue to support and provide for Subgame2 gamehosting without fee. If you are interested in signing up for hosting, you may find registration instructions at http://www.hlrse.net/subspace.php. And nope, this does not mean we will be shutting down entirely. We were supporting ASSS experimentally, and its trial on our systems have expired. We will, and have always since providing gamehosting to the SubSpace community, are a Subgame2 host. Dr Brain Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Someone might create a zone worth playing, thereby increasing the bandwidth load on the server above 0. Freedom is the right to be wrong.

Kilo Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Security issues? Perhaps you'd care to share this with an asss developer?

L.C. Posted February 12, 2011 Author Report Posted February 12, 2011 but the real reason is because his half life server was making the system slow down, and hes trying to lighten the loadI don't know where you pull out these assumptions. You do a lot of logic twisting. its only a matter of time before sscv goes down for goodWhy would we do that? We're a business, have no problems financially, and have no reason whatsoever to rid of the server. Cheese Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 as in, no zones running asss will be hosted unless they are run by cheese SSC Distension OwnerSSCU Trench Wars Developer3:JabJabJab> sometimes i feel like when im in this mood im like a productive form of CheeseDr Brain> Pretty much everything you said was wrong. Dr Brain Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Makes sense, since there's no risk of this: Someone might create a zone worth playing, thereby increasing the bandwidth load on the server above 0. Freedom is the right to be wrong.

L.C. Posted February 23, 2011 Author Report Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) We won't be supporting ASSS hosting on Win32; Cheese has been given an exception because I found myself at wrong in terminating him for nothing that he did. If you have a problem with this, there is always L Y N X and you can always get your own VPS or server. Edited February 23, 2011 by L.C. Kilo Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Can you explain what the problem is with ASSS yet? We need to fix this.
Dr Brain Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Both the comment and the quote were meant as a joke. They were just too good to pass up. Yes, as far as I know there's no security risk for asss beyond that posed by bots. Freedom is the right to be wrong.
Kilo Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 That's not the point. If a host is going to claim that ASSS has a security vulnerability, on any platform, we have to fix it. Why he is keeping this information to himself is beyond me.
PlayWolf Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I did hear rumors, that ASSS was a bit vunerable, but I never fully figured out how, to say that I can't even program/ or work with ASSS in the first place... "What's a furry?"<br />"WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF"
