Take the SSCU zone offline, have 17th hosted on a different and reliable server. Problem solved. MTN was just too afraid to push the zone forward.

We're already doing this... half of this is already done, actually.

17th is a great zone. It was the zone I started on along with Dueling Arizona. I really liked the weasel that you just shot bullets out of and flew backwards and the bullets stayed in the place you shot them effectively forming a wall of death. I prefer that weasel over the tiny re-invention any day. As well I agree with Sever that the east and west map saw a peak in 17th population. I was not heavily involved in the zone and never new anyone there or even who staff was but I do remember being new to subspace and 17th being one of the many zones I tried that nothing could compare to. It has a very unique game play and its still extremely fun, if only more people would spend their time in 17th.

I wish you the greatest success delic.

Well seeing as this is 17th revival, I think my squad will attempt to frequent 17th. We have always visited Devastation late at night, but 17th was my first zone, so I will attempt to bring in 5 or 10 people if and when I can. My squad is really casual as Delic knows. Anyway just a heads up, if you see 17th has more people than usual then stop in and play with us.

Honestly, if you want to "bring the 17th back" what you need is exactly what you need to make a new zone great, a core of players who spend hours playing 17th, even during low population times.

When the 17th was starting up, Dire Wolf and I would sit in the zone, by ourselves sometimes, just killing each other and goofing around. I used to go into other zones and play with a few guys, get their attention and mention that I love the 17th, lets go there. Dire and I weren't the only ones (Cue Telson among others), who worked at this. It took a long time of playing when there was really no one there to play with, before we gained friends who liked to play with us in the 17th. If we just sat in spec, or didn't encourage others on ss to play the zone, we never would have had population.

Basically I'm stating this because ASSS or no ASSS, new map, old map, no matter what the settings are, if you don't use the above model to get people to play the zone, it will never "revive".

Heck even myself, I can't tell you how many times in the past 3 years I popped on to see if anyone was in the 17th and it was 2 people in spec and a bot. If someone was there, I would have gotten into a ship and shot at them, because they weren't I just logged off. If you get even a small group to play the 17th steadily, more will come.

This.

And you can do what tm_master does.

Yeah well you need other new players to play with new players, so they actually have comparable skill levels and don't get slaughtered. I've been in 17th all day, and I have been killing people to much and they log off =/ So it seems I have to play bad on purpose so people enjoy playing =/ Meh might as well

Ah, this is true as well. >.<

It's also a problem for the regulars, because they're too good, and so if you are trying to get new players into the zone (to later become regulars), that's quite a challenge. :p
