Our super secret master plan  is to open MG as it used to be first, then having people developping to move to ASSS.

I dont think anyone wants any major change in the gamestyle tho... If you look around, there is no other CTF zones around anymore, and the whole HS type of play kinda ruined the zone before (as in the whole ?buy'in and upgrade your ship system).

We'll try our best to find a way to attract people to play pub, without ruining it :drinks: .

Everything is still in discussion and will always be... i think we're all open to new ideas :D

Yay, lets restart an afk zone with an actual population of maybe 40. People plays an average of 6 hours a week with no new players coming in. Same answer I gave with DS, make it a subarena and call it a good run.

I don't think being so conservative as to making it a subarena would be so effective anymore. If anyone wants to make/rebirth a zone they should do it as a zone.

It never made sense to me to turn zones into subarenas. The only pro of that is that you can quickly switch to Public arena of whatever zone it resides in, but this is stupid since Peering makes it possible to go from one zone to the other (and can appear in subarena list) using ?go.

I was under the impression that the only reason to take several tiny zones and convert them into subarenas under one new zone would be so the total population would appear higher on the download list and then people might actually enter it (of course there are other ways to make population look higher, but this is a more honest method).

Anyway, I think it's fair to say that MG is fucked regardless of whether it comes back as a zone or subarena.

No wonder people were asking me if MG was coming back...

Anyway, I'll throw my two cents into the issue.

First off, if TT is not involved, anything and everything that's been discussed is possible. TT really did MG a service after Jules tried selling it on ebay by taking over, but in the end, he helped destroy it. Freak did everything he could to keep this zone running, but he did not have the time, nor did he ever step up to TT. When I was there, every major change had to be run through TT. If you haven't noticed yet, he's damn near impossible to get a hold of. The only way we could ever contact TT was to get Audry to contact him through e-mail or MSN (I believe, might've been AIM) because he wouldn't reply to freak and I, only Audry. You cannot increase development in a zone with an MIA owner, it just doesn't work.

The kick in the teeth was our forums. The only way we were able to communicate with our old player base was through the forums. They were "hacked" and TT refused to restore them after that point. Not only was it our only communication tool with the players, but it also had all our schedules/league scores/events on them. There were countless staff topics that were extremely useful, and they are now gone forever. If we were able to at least restore parts of the forums, I'd still be there and so would MG. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

With all that said, and if this does actually happen, be sure to keep leadership open. Do not give it to one lone person. Have three sysops, all willing to make changes on the fly without waiting for the inactive one to show up.

Announce the date MG is coming back, don't just start it up and expect people to arrive. Announce a date, host events, etc. Any of you reading that were former staff members of mine and are contributing, you know what I'm talking about. Have a day where everyone remembers why they love MG. If you bring back the vets for even just a day or two, that population will entice others to stop in.

The bots need to be more automated, like Blocks said. We tried this shortly before the forums were destroyed, but really couldn't find someone willing to help with the needed experience. As far as I know (and I don't know a thing about bots past MERV), AS3 is the way to go. I believe freak had a dev zone up at some point with an AS3 bot. If you get in contact with him, ask him about it.

If you are missing any files, give me a shout on here or SS (I typically stop in once every few days to read my ?messages) and I'll see what I have. I know I have most, if not all, the maps and I have most of the bot files.

EDIT: DS is a ripoff of MG, I thought people only played DS for a few days until the novelty wore off.

I laughed. DS and MG were two separate zones with different game-plays, settings, graphics, and maps.

Meh, perhaps the DS/MG rivalry isn't what it used to be. That was meant for laughs, not for completely obvious facts.

Screw the zone, bring back the forums! I tried to lurk last week and finally stumbled across this thread. I miss lurking that forum every once in awhile. Can't believe they are gone. Did anyone start up a new forum for us outcasts?

The point I'm making is that if you have players just wanting to revive a zone so they can play for 2 weeks then afk in it, might as well make it a subarena so that other zones can benefit from the false population in other zones. If EG absorbs it, then 20+ to pop avg.

JUST USE PEERING TO SHOW UP IN SUBARENA LIST WHILE REMAINING INDEPENDENT ZONES, KAY????

/discussion on zones being subarenas instead

So I played MG 6 or something years ago plugman was in pub quite a bit and I remember ?go games being hosted frequently(By plug mainly methinks I want to say blocks was in there) with 40+ in pub(I want to say would get a lot higher but to damn long ago, it was a lot though :p). I remember that basically that the games slowed down a fair amount server pop began to dwindle and that there was a lot of hate(Dont ask me for specifics maybe a better term would be less friendly?) Anywho I prob played consistently for 2 or more years and then it was more of just to remember how awesome it used to be. Ive always checked on it every so often to see if it rose back to its former glory and this was one of those times, saw the forum was dead and ended up here. I would love to see it back in power, those ctf games got pretty intense.

PS I have a terrible memory so I could be a bit off on my time frames... you get the idea.

I doubt bringing it back would do anything. it would just die again. not enough devoted old players. everyone just kinda moved on from mg.

I'm a devoted old player. MG > You. $
