Cheese Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) Does anyone have interest in this? also, vote or it never happened . Edited January 9, 2011 by Cheese
Dav Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 provided you have the time and dedication to see it through then yes. It was a popular zone in the past and I think it will be again.
Hakaku Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 There already exists a poll for this... http://forums.ssgn.net/topic/25344-restarting-desert-storm/
Samapico Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 There already exists a poll for this... http://forums.ssgn.net/topic/25344-restarting-desert-storm/I thought the same thing at first... but Desert Storm != Metal Gear
Dr Brain Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Only if you do things differently from the old one. E.g. use hscore.
Resol Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Brain seems to think, unless a zone uses hscore, it fails! nuff said.
fLop Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 I doubt bringing it back would do anything. it would just die again. not enough devoted old players. everyone just kinda moved on from mg.

Dr Brain Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Brain seems to think, unless a zone uses hscore, it fails! nuff said.Almost. I think a failed zone with no changes will fail.
PlayWolf Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Bring back infantry zones like Desert Storm and Metal Gear. I must be dreaming someone pinch me!
PoLiX Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Metal Gear actually died thanks to implementations that had begun moving towards an HS style zone. So HSCore would just keep it dead. Once we shrunk to a smaller map and got rid of the bot, the pop began coming back. When you have a small population, the game becomes boring when there is so much map to run and hide on, and nothing had been done to fix this. It also turns 1 sided or takes forever to get to the other end, and many just stop playing after a few mins. But the final Nail was a certain player promising league, getting promotions to run it, then once he got such promtions suddenly didn't have time and didn't really have anything to hand over. Turned out to be all talk, and the players felt betrayed another time and gave up. Penny then gave them hope a final time, a few came back, but just wasn't enough to keep things lively and support leagues. Those issues, and many of the players hated Testtube. So without him it might work, but they have been let down so many times, dunno how many would come back.
Dr Brain Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Metal Gear actually died thanks to implementations that had begun moving towards an HS style zone. So HSCore would just keep it dead.I feel like your reply was directed at me, so I'll respond: what population is there to drive away with changes? It's a dead zone, after all. I'm not saying hs style items are the only way to go (or even the best way for MG's old population), but you have to continually evolve a zone if you hope to keep it alive, and items are an easy way to do that.
Resol Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 I think so many people like MG because of its simplicity. Get the flag and bring it back to your base, repeat to win. Same style was used in the league matches. MG being one of the only CTF zones available also attracted the population their population. The other being Infantry style game play. I agree that the zone could use some revamped improvements, buts its not going to bring back any kinda of steady population that once was.
»Blocks Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Would anyone (SSC, freakmonger, Testtube) take issue with somebody starting up MG again? I remember a little while ago there was a guy who set up an MG clone who was pretty quickly run out of town. I don't think MG necessarily has to change its gameplay to be successful again. The way it is now though, there's a minimum critical mass of players (I peg it at 12vs12 games occurring daily) for it to be a lot of fun. I think this and someone finding the time to manage the zone are the main barriers to it starting back up. Is getting hosting on SSC easy and straightforward now? It's always been pretty hazy to me. If there was reasonable assurance of getting a spot on someone's server and an SSC slot (after development is done), I'd work on this.
Cheese Posted January 10, 2011 Author Report Posted January 10, 2011 get me the files and ill get you a spot, a host, a slot, blackjack, and a ponyid like to see mg back again
Audry Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Oh lord... I dont know what to start with... Me and few people are already working on something, and I already have found a host for the zone and bots. I need to talk to one other person before going to Testtube and see if he gives us his blessing. Afterall he is still the zone owner =/. The last attempt at bringing MG back was succesfull.. until we lost our way of communication with the players (website/forum got hacked or some crap), then people stopped showing up. Think thats enough infos for now
007paulwall Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 only good zone on continuum is mg so yes bring it back mg was definitely the zone with the most potential....staff ruined it
»Lynx Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 For the few times that I actually played MG, I enjoyed it - it was easy to get into, you could be relatively bad at the zone yet still get some limelight play, and the players weren't a flock of trolls. Each time I speak to a regular MG player, they've all seemed to either blame the development of the zone being against the opinions of the players, or the staff inactivity. Two issues which can be addressed fairly easily, after all, the zone (when I played it at least) was still fun with 20 players, which I believe is a very realistic target to achieve within a couple months of development.
»Lynx Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Tbh, she seems like a pretty good candidate to me - she actually plays the zone, and plays it a lot.
Audry Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) LOL Purgita indeed i'm not dev'in anything... i have others people with me! So far we have Aquatis (former MG player) who is pretty good at creating events and such. SUPERSECRETNAMETHATTHEPERSONDONTWANTTOBEREVEALED!! who is alright with bots and i need to talk with someone else and then i'll contact TT. The way i see it, i would like to see a team being in charge.. not only 1 person. That way we dont get screwed if someone disappear or get busy with life (erm just like last time lol). I know Blocks will be there if we need any help, same with few peoples i talked to. Edited January 10, 2011 by Audry
the_paul Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) Taken from Cheese's sig on the Trench Wars forum: SSCV Distension OwnerSSCV Sector Eight ModeratorCZ Cheese Zone OwnerSSCU Trench Wars Developer Lets see: the 3 zones that you always brag about running are dead and buried, and yet you think you're the right guy to revive MG? Why is this exactly? 3 is a charm as the saying goes, but you've already gotten your 3 strikes, but you keep coming back for more. You've obliterated the line between perseverance and insanity. I voted that yes, MG should come back, but it should come back with way Audrey is talking about. You've had your chances and they've all failed, I'd rather not see history repeat itself. Especially not since this zone has a history and has real potential, something I can't say about any of the ones you've run. Cancer kills what it comes in contact with cheese, therefore the less you have to do with this project, the better. Edited January 10, 2011 by the_paul
KthxTheLegend Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 The_paul pretty much hit this on the head, don't allow this ass clown who attempts to push his retarded idea of ships being leveled up and powered up into every zone he owns and/or works with to create something. I can assure you fans of MG that in the hands of "cheese" the zone would turn into something much other than what you wanted it to be originally, or what it was originally, and that you would end up with Metal Gear Hyperspace soon enough. He is just using the player base of the zone to get people closer to playing his trash event. He already tried putting "distension" into TW public arena and failed miserably thanks to some interference on my part and several other players who don't want this disastrous idea infiltrating our zones play styles. So basically your best bet would be to go with Audrey here, over the owner of three failed zones, two failed attempts at bringing distension to TW, and a partridge in a pear tree. By the way cheese, hows distension zone going buddy? Lots of population?
KthxTheLegend Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Furthermore, the guy is just basically a cancer to this game, he is in it to steal player base and try to add distension elements into every zone, someone block him from doing this shit already.
CRe Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) the guy is just basically a cancer to this game Cheese does not have the mental capacity to successfully run a zone or contribute anythingworthwhile to subspace. All he is good at is making himself look more retarded on a dailybasis. Edited January 11, 2011 by CRe
